Pretty impressive for no engine mods except heavy clutch springs!
Yes good numbers, turbos...They are expensive to own and maintain and 250hp on a stock 1k with hd springs only will not last long unless your a poser, dyno sheet queen or live where thier are no straights and never run it. Turbos on bike have a ways to go yet if you want to turn the boost up and run em hard. A 1k on 4-6lbs would prolly run fine but thats the gimmick. Who is going to spend $3700 on a DIY kit for a 200-210 hp bike when you can spray it? and if you want it installed? than comes the other pitch for best results we recommend U,V,X,Y and Z plus race gas.
How many turbo 1k's you see running at the strips? especially stage 2's? wonder why? I see more for sale
The 8.7 run was with his 12 year old son riding! which props to him. Won't be long he will be like his dad a champion racer. But do your homwork and go on the variuos turbo bike boards, find the peoples e-mail (don't PM) and ask them lots of questions on thier setup.

Whattt???
I kinda questioned if the stock internals would work

I took a turbine from a Pontiac Sunbird......I believe it is a T-25 made by Garrett.
I spent about 3 and a half years doing research then started fabricating an exhaust manifold in November of 2004. Had it not been for Joe Law, Randy Williamson and Doc from our gixxer board I would have never ever been able to make this work. But 10 months later in August of this year we dialed it in at Trick Motor Sports (Chris Trickett Bridgeport, West Virginia)
(02) gixxer 1000 with 23,000 miles...had 144 hp stock....I dragged my feet finishing this project because after more than 400 hours of hard labor, I was afraid it would not work.
Randy said finish it, she'll go or she'll blow......That was my worst fear..........My main objective was to achieve 185 + hp without destroying a perfectly good engine.
It took about 4 hours of remapping fuel and timing, but we ended up with 192 hp on a 90 degree day with high humidity. 2 months later with 68 degrees low humidity and high barometric pressure we leaned out the bottom end and got 207 hp. I'm very proud of it. She's not perfect by a long shot but turbo lag is not too bad (lost around 18 hp between idle up to 4500 rpm) But I have less than 1800 dollars in the whole project and any system you buy will cost between 4500-6500 dollars.
Joe Law is from Fairmont West Virginia he has set many speed records at Wendover Utah (salt flats) in a Gas Blown Lakester.....349 Miles Per Hour. He is a Great source of information!
Randy Williamson of Keyser West Virginia has turboed everything he has ever owned. From Tractor Riggs to Dodge Neon's to Hardly Ablesons. He is 55 years old and one very smart dude! Had he not helped me with this project I surely would have destroyed the engine.
And of course Doc from our gixxer board. I don't know doc personally but he was very helpful with information, and these days, the people that really know what they are doing don't usually offer up help. THANKS DOC, I really appreciate your input!!!
This is a totally stock engine with original clutch that now has 29,000 miles on it and PUMP GAS 94 octane, YES PUMP GAS. So the stock internals will work if you don't squeeze it to hard.
With higher octane you could advance timing more and gain power or just increase boost for more power. I'm pushing 7 pounds of boost, I feel you might get away with 8-10 pounds but thats where you start squeezing it to hard and somethings going to pop.

Kevin,I can understand & appreciate all of your hard work,my hats off to you for an outstanding job http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/applause.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
How much boost do you think it could handle?
Have you taken it to the track at all?????

All stock internals, I would keep it at 6lbs max, except for BRIEF runs at 8 with race fuel. They will take 6lbs for a long time. The turbo is a lot less hard on the engine than spray. Power band is more linear and doesnt hit hard like nitrous does. I beat on my Busa quite a bit with the stage 1 kit with no problems, so the 1K should be fine too.

OldGix;
Thank You, I've been looking for that pat on the back, The whole family thinks I'm nuts. They just don't get excited about spending over $500.00 bucks for a wide band air fuel monitor..........Doc says that the engine can stay together with 10 pounds of boost, But it's a trade off because with pump gas you have to retard the timing so much to keep detonation under control that you drop on power, use more octain and put the timing back where it should be and you had better have a good set of conecting rods. It would definatly make a whole lot of power but even with the good rods I don't think it would be a long lasting engine.
By spring of next year I'm going to try and squeeze 8-9 pounds of boost, remap the fuel charts (I'm still way rich on the bottom end) and hope for something a little over 212-215 hp. ALL ON 94 OCTAIN
As far as racing, I quit drag racing in 1992 when I started road racing. I want to get back to the road races but I haven't checked with the tech inspection guys at Summit point Yet (my home track) for what they will let through teck inspection. I've definatly got a few extra water and oil lines???
Again Thanks
