Don't try to beat the guy beside you, & don't go any faster than you feel comfortable. It's your first time , go home at the end of the night not the hospital or the morge. Good luck!! My [2cents]
spongebob 10-19-2005, 11:15 AM biggest tip is to go to the drag racing forum..all kinds of good shit there..
GSXtasy 10-19-2005, 01:17 PM Yeah dude! I went to the strip for the first time not too long ago with my K2 750, so basically the same bike as you.
1. Lower your rear tire pressure!
2. Lower the front, raise the back. Or just strap the front down.
3. Don't try and do insane launches at first, just take off like you're at a stoplight then hit it from there.
4. Take off at the last yellow light, not the green.
5. Have fun, don't worry about winning!

Jimmy 2 Times 10-20-2005, 01:16 AM make sure you are laying on the tank, or the sky is all you will see http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Blipstein 10-20-2005, 01:35 AM Buy some extra clutches
forrestang 10-20-2005, 09:54 AM Buy some extra clutches
Or buy a 2 stage lockup and as the average hobby racer u're clutches will last u for a looooooong time.
Kennedy 10-20-2005, 11:06 AM Some tips.....
When you stage and are waiting to launch, don't pull the clutch all the way to the bar. Hold the clutch so that you can start to feel it grab a little. It is way easier to get a good launch when you know when the clutch is going to grab.
Don't wait for the green light. If wait for the green light to glow to launch, you will be super late. I start to launch when the second from the bottom yellow goes out.
IMO Don't worry about strapping the bike. I have never strapped or lowered my bikes. I am by no means a drag race expert, but I have had no problem smoking lowered busas. It all comes down to the rider.

If you're that good to beat other bikes of equal power that are strapped or lowered....imagine what u could have done if your bike was lowered http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
It makes a huuuuuuge difference.
LynnM 10-20-2005, 07:10 PM All good tips-- CHeck the track layout make sure you know where the shut off is, where the return roads & exits are When on the track DO NOT CROSS in front of another rider to get to the return road
Ibidu1 10-20-2005, 09:03 PM Do a light burn out to heat the tire, you dont need to lower the air psi, but make sure its around 30-33 psi cold
When you turn on the tree the top lights, keep rolling the bike till you turn the tree on. Then slowly go a little more till you shut it off then roll it back a hair to turn it on again.
Stage is the most important part, for the 750 I hold the rpm 9k rpm and like the others post said hold the clutch lever in then slowly pull it out till you feel the clutch trying to grab then return it. Your body should be on the gas tank legs spread out open on the sides, helmet tucked under the windscreen.
Dont worry when the tree lights up green, reaction time does not affect your time. So you can sit at the tree for 5 sec then take off you will run the same time so dont stress it.
Once you get the green light slowly let out a little clutch you want to launch as if your trying to spin the back tire. Feet still spread out almost dragging the floor you want to keep them on the side till you get to 3/4 of 1st gear. Then quickly throw your left leg on the peg and do a clutchless up shift, lightly releasing the throttle just enough to let the gear slip on. Keep your head tucked all the way.
If you get wheel spin drop 5 psi of air or launch softer. If your lifting the front wheel launch softer or strap the front but learn to do it freely.
But ya drag racing destroys a lot of parts, mostly clutch discs and clutch baskets. Goodluck!
1_BAD_GIXXER 10-21-2005, 05:51 AM Wow
awesome information guys. Really appreciate it!!! hopefully, i don't break anything, but hey, i have all winter to fix her! (knock on wood)... LOL...
anywho, should be interesting considering air temp will be about 45 -50*F. nice and cold, just how the bike likes it!
again, thank you guys for the advice!

B-dawg 10-22-2005, 09:12 AM watch other ride, when ur off bike go to line and watch body position, rpms and technique. i have been doing it for 16 years on bike, and still watch and learn all time. practice is 2nd most thing. more laps u have the better u will be. get suspension set up right. this makes it so much easier to launch and go fast. strap is a must. last do the same burnout and everything else prior to a pass the same. make it repititous once you find your stride. also allow ample cool down between passes, this will help the clutch last much longer.
