: Thinking of a new vehicle.
SicShift 10-13-2005, 02:33 PM Well, at least now I am. My mother might be getting a job at this new dealership for the CEO and one of the perks is that her family gets everything at cost.
Well, they sell Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Infiniti, Land Rover, Jaguar and a few others.
I've been recently thinking of an SUV because I started surfing again and wouldn't mind something that could accomodate more outdoor stuff. I still want some luxury though.
I was thinking of this with the v8 version though.

On the other hand, a nice little CLK or 911 is also appealing. I've heard with the land rovers that the engines aren't the greatest but the V8 models are fine. I've seen this car a lot at the valet and it's kind of got everything I want. I love my G but it would be fun to have something new.
DISARESTA 10-13-2005, 03:04 PM that landrover is bad ass. I wished I could afford something like that/// I'm looking at the jeep Rubicon...
Fiddy_Ryder 10-13-2005, 03:33 PM new m class perhaps? the new one is ssooooo much better than the last.. but the rover is also a damn fine truck

Agreed, the new M-class is awesome. Although there have been a couple of problems that I've seen with the new 350 motors. But all in all, solid motor and great SUV. But depending on your budget, I'd get the Rover. Now the Range Rover Sport http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif
Fiddy_Ryder 10-13-2005, 05:16 PM benz with the 500!

How bout the Honda Ridgeline or Chevy Avalanche...I love the look of those trucks http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I know I know they aren't a BMW or Mercedes.....but Still nice looking trucks http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/flipa.gif
andtal 10-13-2005, 11:17 PM check out the new X5 Coupe.
above all tho, id go for the Range Rover. Those things are awesome, and can handle off road too (unless you stick 24"rims on it and low-pro road tyres!!!!)
Amy269 10-13-2005, 11:45 PM I would love to have an SUV as I feel they are safer, fare better in accidents (against smaller vehicles anyways), when you are in one you can see everything around you and you just feel like the king, queen in my case, of the road. I took my CTS in for a new tire and they gave me a brand new black Escalade as a courtesy vehicle. (I made sure to tell them I'd be too busy to bring it back until late the next afternoon http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif) I havent driven any other SUV's lately so my opinion may be biased but that damn thing was grrrreeeat!..Tight turning radius, not TOOOO bad on gas and of course looks hot. When I move to NC I will be looking into getting one since I will be driving in ice and snow (does is snow in Greensboro).
Amy269 10-13-2005, 11:47 PM Also I will need something that can tow a trailer for my bike so I can take it to the local tracks. Dont want to put an ugly ol' hitch on a CTS now do I.
oldgixxer 10-14-2005, 12:14 AM I say go with the new ML350,but I'm a lil biased...
Or you could wait a lil bit and go for the new AMG ML63&have fun destroying sportscars http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Don't fall into some false sense of security. The only thing 4WD/AWD gives you an advantage on ice/snow is getting going. NOT STOPPING. My car has 4wheel disc/ABS brakes also. Your 4WD/AWD does not help in coming to a safe stop.
It's very funny to be driving in a big snowstorm, all the nice FWD/RWD vehicles will take it easy. Then some big huge SUV or pickup will come flying past you like some bad ass. Then a mile up the road, you will see that same SUV/pickup in a ditch on the side of the road because they couldn't come to a safe stop when traffic slowed down. I"ve been on ice/snow before, going less then 5mph, hit the brakes, and still slid for a good 10-20 feet more before coming to stop.
If you don't have experience driving in snow/ice, I wouldn't suggest a SUV as a first vehicle for it.
Wifey 10-14-2005, 01:50 AM I agree Griff.... Last winter during a big storm I went out with a bunch of girlfriends I had my Expedition and one of my girlfriends had a new civic. I was all over the place while she was chomping through the snow smoothly. I ended up parking my truck and driving her car and was mortified by how much better her car was in the snow and on the ice.
SUV's are overrated when it comes to the snow/ice, and useless when it comes to parking http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/disappointed.gif
BUT in Sics case I would rock that rover..... literally http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/trout.gif
Very nice Sic http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Da Mighty Midge 10-14-2005, 01:51 AM The best car I ever had in snow/ice was an old Honda Accord.

Wifey, there VERY useful when it comes to demoloition,I mean parking,
Now how would that poor Civic fare against your now-steel-I-beam reinforced garage? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That is one big ass I beam too... but I bet I could find a way to take it down http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/trout.gif Did you hear that I closed the garage door on my new car? Well you know the metal handle you pull on the garage, well I didnt pull the car in far enough and when I hit the remote to close the door it scraped down my car http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was gonna say something to that effect as well.
But Sicshift I would go with the Rover. I like the looks of them.

Chillywater 10-14-2005, 03:47 AM Man Get A Rover!!! That's all i've got to say, I've been a BMW enthusiust for as long as I can remember, but I do own a 2000 Discovery series II SE...and damn I had a close call in that thing yesterday...it saved my life....due to other issues in my life i got EXTREMLEY agressive behind the wheel and had the pedal to the floor...I was doing about 75 and came up on a SHARP S-turn with one of those big long speed bumps in the middle of it...not only did my rover take the first part of the turn with no problem, but when i went to swerve back to the left i went over the huge speed bump which caused the back end to go airborne(keep in mind i was FLYING through there considering the speed limit is only 25mph) when i went over the huge bump I could see what was going to happen, I was going to lose control and flip...but to my surprise(THANKYOU GOD http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif) the rover leaned like it was flipping to the right, and then just stabled back out and I drove out of it by staying on the gas and turning the wheel the right way http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif....but damn I would bet any amount of money that if I was in another vehicle and did that exact same thing it would have not even taken the first swerve into the turn let alone stayed up right without flipping after the huge speed bump...I knew before yesterday that my Land Rover handled excellent and is hard as hell to flip, but I have a whole new respect for my discovery now, it did what i thought was the impossible http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif and I feel that with the combination of the full time 4wd, excellent traction control system it has, and most importantly God being with me...that is the reason im hearing to talk about it, considering I was not wearing a seatbelt and the windows were down, I would have been thrown from the vehicle immediatley....and on another note, its stock right now, but I can go through damn near anything within reason offroad....its just as capable as my 4runner with a 4 inch lift, lockers, and 33inch swampers was when it comes to offroad, and thats no lie http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
sorry for being so wordy I just had to get that off my chest, it scared the shit out of my, but at the same time taught me how amazing such a heavy SUV can handle....
with all that being said keep in mind my rover is a 2000 discovery 2, the LR3(Discovery 3 in every country but America), Range Rover, and Range Rover sport are all much more technologically advanced than mine is, I get any new Land Rover/Range Rover if I was you, except for the freelander(those are no different from a ford escape)....My next vehicle will likely be an 03 or newer range rover, they look absolutley stunning, have interior thats bentley like quality, BMW V8 engine, and of course the switch to make it drop to the ground or make it standard ride height, or lift it a few inches.....can't beat that....But the LR3 or range sport or non sport would all be a wise choice...simply amazing vehicles...the LR3 also has pretty much everything the range does, I've just got it for the style of the new range rovers http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
good luck with you decision and let us know what you end up with
