Two friends have major crap going this week........
First, the older story. One of my closest friend's daughter trial is starting tomorrow. She is being charged with Murder 2 after a baby died in her care. I have tried to keep an open mind that it is possible that she snapped and did something. But since the charges were first made in November, I have read the statements of the officers, the doctor's that examined the baby, the actions of the mother (I could make this the longest post on GDC in a long time with everything I've seen). Jury selection was today. Of all the people that were called as possible jurors, there was only 4 men. 2 of them are on the jury. Of the 10 women on the jury, all 10 have small children, 9 are single mothers, and 7 are minorites (which the mother of the baby that died is).
And the other is a friend that had her 11 month old taken away by the state last Wednesday. She dropped off her daughter at day care and went and did all of her things she needed to do, picked up her daughter, got home and when she was changing her noticed two very fresh burns on her stomach and back. She called the police to report possible abuse as it looked like they were from a cigarette lighter. The police came in, looked at Shai, then called CPS. CPS came in and took Shai from her parent's since some abuse happened and even though the report says the burns were older than 2 hours (she had her for about 45 minutes when the police arrived) and newer than 6 hours when she dropped her daughter off. On Thursday of last week the parent's was supposed to be interviewed by the police at 10 and have a supervised visit with their daughter at 3. The got to the station 9:45. Kim was seen at 1 and Steve at 3:30. So they got screwed out of the visit. The next visit was supposed to be on Monday and they got to the office and the person that had the baby was running late and showed up when the visitation room at 5 minutes left in it, and the worker for the state wouldn't let Kim check the burn marks to her daughter. Tomorrow they are scheduled to take a polygraph and if they are lucky, they might get their daughter home on Friday.
Ugh.........
