http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif It might not seem like a big deal, but I finally pulled the permit to build my house. Most of the country is semi-sane when it comes to letting people develop their property, but since last year's hurricane season the local (Marion county, FL) building department has gone nucking futs trying to keep people from building on their land. I spent most of the day trying to chase down product approval codes for my exterior windows & doors - the only comment I had left to clear up on my app. After spending a few hours at the Home Depot procuring documents that were essentially worthless in my quest, I ended up taking everything into the Building Dept. and having them "assist" me. For those of you who don't know what a product approval code is - it means that every certain item you put in your house has been tested and approved as hurricane safe. Which turns out to be a *huge* PITA when you're trying to get the codes for your specific product because noone knows where to find that information. So I lucked out by getting a part-timer who was willing to help me out and pull the codes for my app & approve it.
http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif Hope everything goes just as well tomorrow when I attempt to pull the permit on my workshop (which I can't build until the house is done - but that's a whole 'nother story).
http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif NTM I missed out on having to qualify for FL2004 code (~$3k-$5k extra expense) by a month or so. Whew! Cheers!

Tomorrow night I sign over a piece of property that has easement priviledges to a 850 acre lake. Less than 1/2 acre. No improvements. $47,000. They're paying cash. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/icon_rant.gif
Congrats http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Sweet... when will it be ready??
http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I'm doing all the construction myself, so it could take 4-6 months. I'd really like to be moved in before the new year, but I doubt I'll make that deadline. It'll probably take about a month to get the slabs poured & cured - then the fun begins.

Did you have to get permits for the grow-room?
http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Technically, yes. I'm building a 750 sf "workshop" which will be totally solar powered. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
