im running vp u2 fuel 101 octane, my bike 01 k1 started to run rough. not bad or missing just alittle rough, sould i run a colder plug? the plugs now are Iridium cr9eia-9, so should i go colder with the hi octane fuel. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Unless you have motor work, using high octane fuel will make your bike run like crap.. If your bike is stock, 89-91 octane will run best, and if it pings go to 93.. You only need high octane fuel if you have modified your motor and you need to prevent detonation/pinging..

does octane booster hurt the bike

Yeah, like was said, unless you have some serious internal mods done your bike will run very bad on high octane fuel. I put some "booster" in my boat (300hp 350 Merc) once and it ran like dogshit. I run 89-91 octane in my bike ALL the time and have never had any detonation problems.

and read the small print on the boostesr there 14 points of boost is really only 1.4 more octane each 1" point" =.1 of upgraded octane, there just a rip off.

Stick with pump gas. Race fuel is a total waste of money on a stock engine. Actually seen power losses on occasions on the dyno unless you have adjustable ignition.

Sort of as HEjason said... octane number is a number relative to combustion, whether its a fast or slow burner... most motors will run happily off typical pump gas while adding higher octane will do nothing more than eat your pocketbook, what it will allow if you to raise your ignitiont timing to get more hp out of it but you will have to continue to use that or higher octane to obtain that hp gain, otherwise it will detonate... think of it as an Insurance policy for any motor that is close to detonating....

I disagree that race fuel is a waste of money. Too much octane for a motor, and improper tuning for the fuel being used is a waste of money on fuel. For the most power you want to use the lowest number octane possible w/o causing detonation. Also most of the fuels that give the most power are oxygenated and low octane. It's the O2 that gives you the power by adding air into the motor via fuel not just whatever goes through the airfilter. VP U4 is like 92 motor octane and is fine for most "stock" bikes. U2 is I think 100 motor octane and is what you want if your compression ratio is getting up there. MR9 is 87 octane but has a little morre kick to it. I see about 3% gains in hp by just using U4 and 5% with MR9.

Second when using fuels high in O2 you will have to run a slightly richer mixture to get full potential out of it. If you don't have a way of doing so then you are wasting your money. Just my opinion on race fuel as a result of many dyno sessions.

again.. why waste the most of VP 4U as you say its like 92 octane.. bet ya money its more expensive....

We need to know if the guy that started the thread has a stock bike.
I've run over 15:1 compression on some 600's on 98 RON pump gas without issue of detonation.

With that kind of compression, you had better use 98! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
