OK, so my sister (a year younger) leads a somewhat...crazy life. She has been addicted to a very bad drug for several years and is in and out of jail. She went to jail again last month and this time will be in at LEAST a year if not up to five for various charges. I went and got some of her stuff out of storage to keep it in my garage at least until I moved. Anyways, I was going through all of it and throwing away the crack pipes and the junk so I could just keep whatever was important to her. I came across a makeup box and when I opened it I saw money all cut up??? I thought COOL, looks like a $50 and a $20. $70 for me (to pay back at least part of the $100 it cost me to close her storage out). Well, it only took me a few seconds to realize that it was way more than one of each bill. Dammit, it's like 5 $50's and 4 $20's, maybe more. But after an hour of taking all the pieces and trying to put them together I realized that most of the serial numbers are only partials so I am getting them together as good as I can and sending it all off to the Dept. of treasury to see what they'll give me. At this point I am about done. I just can't believe someone would waste this much $. I think I recall her telling me some crazy crack dealer she was staying w/ had cut it up awhile ago. I guess she missed some of the pieces when she picked it all up.

damn, some ppl should really stay away from drugs. that's fucked up though. Funny thing, I was on the treasury website a few days ago, and it said that they will exchange money for new bills as long as you have over 50 percent of the bill. So it actually looks like you miught be able to save some of that money. I thought it was a $1,000 bill...news to me! I am gonna go check out the website and see what it says that way maybe I'll take another 15 minutes puttin more of 'em together. Yeah check the site out, I googled it and found it that way, I believe the answer to your question was in their FAQ section. Good luck though, I hope you make some extra money on the side, looks like you will at least make 50 off the whole deal. I already checked the site and went and rechecked the bills to see if the appeared to meaure at least 50% and I think I am def. good on a twenty and a fifty. But it says that there is no way they can estimate the time frame in which they will evaluate the monies. Oh well, I guess I'll end up forgetting about it and get a check one day.
