Well i read the wheelie tutorial on first gear power ups, tried it a few times and its works great. i dont plan on doin a ton of wheelies due to havin no leather yet and only been riding for about 3 months total now, but i have a ton of quad/dirtbike buddies that say learn to clutch it, more consistant and you can ride them a lot longer. I was just wondering if i should keep doin power ups till im comfy in first or try to ride them after power ups for a while, or just jump strait to clutching it so i learn the best way first or what. If so, what speed would i be rollin at to do a decent clutch up in say, second gear? rpms before i dump the clutch? I could just go out and try stuff but liek i said, i think imma ride on 2 wheels for a while longer, just wondering about it http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not sure on rpm but anywhere between 35-55 works for my 03 600 w stock gearing in 2nd standing up that is, cant quite put a sitdown together on my 6. But yeah by all means dont let you first wreck on two wheels be from wheelies. Everyone learns different so dont just run with my advice or any one person. Be safe, wear gear and practice often.

I use the clutch for 1st gear wheelies. I think its way better then using the power band. For one its predictable it always come rite up. For 2nd I get to ride them out till I red line, then she lands nice and easy. Dont know about shifting into second though. I would like to do a stand up on second, but not sure if my bike could do it. I ride a 2000 6 with stock gearing.

Practice clutch-up's at 25mph in 1st gear. You'll have to do it many times to get the feel of it. I haven't been able to clutch up in 2nd, but shifting into 2nd is no problem. It's all about practice man...

ya there are plenty on the 04's and 05's who claim sitting at 45ish maybe and dumping the clutch to get 2nd up. For me i never did stock sitting on a 600 when I had an '02. But I did have fun clutching 1st up at 25ish like 03zg8 was saying http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

oh and yes standing makes a big difference with getting the bike. You have more leverage leaning back against the bike standing up.

Do note - stunting/racing leads to a wreck of some magnitude sooner or later. Even if its just a drop.

Like stated, get use to the feeling of the clutch "slipping" and then try to do it. Still gets me from time to time, but I don't really do many wheelies. 2nd is a lot easier standing, mainly because you can see what you are heading towards. I have heard, and seen people get 2nd sitting down, but I am to big to do so. My stock 600 has no problem getting 2nd up around 35ish and up. I can't get 3rd up until about 65-70. Just get use to the feeling, before going out and attempting.http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

I clutch up in first around 25, like was said earlier it just goes right up to balance and you can ride it out. I also clutch up in second sitting, running about 65 or so, bout the same as in first, just up to balance and ride out. Iam on a 750 though, my 600 was a 2 down sprocket, It just came up to quick and when you would go to balance out it would want to pull itself back down. Best I recall it was hard to clutch it up in second sitting.

I normally power up first, clutch 2nd sitting down, and bounce/clutch 3rd standing. I found that second comes up the easiest around 40-45ish on my 04 600. I just give it a good amount of throttle and that baby comes right up to balance point.

all sounds like what my bro was telling me, he rides an 05 r6 and clutches second sittign down at 70 all the time on the highway. I never though of practicing clutching it at 25 in first... usually i just power it up there. I decided to do minimal wheelies for the time being right now, i dont think im above novice on the throttle as of yet, dont wanna dumper her as of yet either http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

isn't the r6 geared stock 16/48 though - and might have a smaller turn radius in the throttle as well

hence all the r6 throttle mods

You either didnt clutch hard enough or you are leaned foward. Prob both.

Definately sounds like a leaning forward problem.

yah i think i was, pretty sure I was, thats my problem on power ups too sometimes Im still leaning forward because my riding position is way forward.

scoot back like 1 inch on the seat. Doesnt sound like much, but that what a book i was reading said, went out and tried it and it seems like my whole riding style is more comfy in that postion, and wheelies come right up instead of a steady rise

she'll still clutch with you leaning down on the tank. She'll still clutch esp in 1st, with you doing a high chair wheelie.

You just have to learn to DROP that clutch and give an intial quick WACK of the throttle (not alot in 1st) and she'll pop up. I learned to clutch in 1st. I don't advocate it, but hey it worked for me.

2nd is a little harder to get up than first, your definitely going to have to shift your weight to the back off the seat, I learned by sitting with my ass all the way at the back off the seat touching the passenger seat, then after I perfected my technique I went back to my normal riding position, btw there are 2 different methods of clutching, the dip and the pop, you may want to try both and see which you prefer, personally I use the pop for 1st and 2nd and the dip for 3rd as I can time it better with my bounce.

1 - the pop - get up to desired speed, two finger clutch, increase throttle, release clutch swiftly, modulate throttle to acheive desired height.

2 - the dip - go wide open, and I mean pin that mutha, two finger clutch till it slips, stay wide open, wait like a second allowing the rpm's to climb and release clutch, once the wheel is coming up ease off the throttle.
