+1. These assholes think that engaging in illegal activity to stop illegal activity is allright. I hope they all die in a car fire. Just kidding. I do hope that this lady can hammer their asses down and this crap stops.

beanfield 10-04-2005, 07:34 AM the riaa is just unreal. they've been threatening to cut the cord on apple and iTunes unless they change their pricing model. http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/05/08/27/133209.shtml?tid=176
Hell, even Microsoft won't venture into providing a music download service...the royalty rates are too high. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20051004/tc_nm/microsoft_dc
The RiAA wonders why music sales are so low...I wonder why? Maybe it has something to do with crappy music sold at a high price. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/idea.gif
killertofu562 10-04-2005, 07:50 AM I use to buy and collect CDs before the RIAA went bonkers. Now I rarely listen to main stream music. Partly cause it most of sucks and partly cause I don't want to support the RIAA. Besides that crap comes on the radio 20x a day. I remember a time when the radio had a nice mix playlist.

Yeah our CEO (Jobs) was saying that the labels are just being greedy now. It's ridiculous.
nataSdroL 10-04-2005, 08:31 AM Music does indeed suck nowadays. Most CDs are only like 10-12 songs long, and to make things worse at least 8 of them are filler songs. I don't really feel like paying 15-20 bucks on crap.

They have been being greedy for years. I thought that price of cd's were going to come down because of a settlement a few years back.
61ache 10-05-2005, 01:36 AM I love iTunes and haven't bought any music from anywhere else in years, but if the pricing model changed I don't know if it would continue. It's not exactly like you get a great "discount" from iTunes the way it is. $9.99 for music, no cd, at lower quality isn't exactly a pricing steal. iTunes does rock, though, in you have almost any CD, most really obscure, and I can buy it from anywhere (read work) and listen to it right away.
beanfield 10-05-2005, 04:20 AM I don't use iTunes, but the advantage to online music for me is the fact that you don't have to pay for an entire cd when all you want is one or two songs. Actually, the fact that it's downloaded into a digital format right onto my hard drive is also a plus for me, I don't want to have to take the time rip a cd and enocde it. I haven't used a cd in my car or home for over a year. However, I could see how that could be a problem for other people.
I've actually considered subscribing to a p2p music download service (like napster). However, I quit considering once I realized that there was nothing I wanted to download.
As far as quality, technically anything in mp3, ogg, aac, etc... will be lower quality. However, even when listening with the most accurate audio hardware (within reason) I doubt that 99.9% of the population would be able to tell the difference between a cd and a properly encoded ogg or mp3...unless you're comparing the file with something like super audio cd or dvd audio.
my ex-gf and I would argue over this very topic time and time again. She's in the recording industry and she would get so mad at me for downloading ONE song instead of buying an entire album. Why the hell am I going to pay $20 for a cd that has one good song out of 15? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Hell she's a great singer and her cd had maybe 5 songs that I liked out of 15. I told her I'll buy songs individually if I like them ... she laughed and started telling me how much it costs to produce one song blah blah blah. My reaction; if it's so damn expensive to produce one song, then why is iTunes selling it for only one dollar? It's easier to project that people will buy an entire album vs. one song to recoup costs. At least that's how I see it.
If I like the song, I'll end up buying it from with my iTunes account, but if the price goes up, no way in hell am I buying it from them anymore. To hell with the RIAA
