: Long hair and riding rockets...
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-03-2005, 12:56 AM Hey ladies, I thought I’d share my technique of dealing with rider’s hair for ya’ll..
I’ve got long naturally curly hair that gets knotted fiercely after a day of riding. Even the little ponytail that hangs out of my helmet get destroyed. So…
I get the knots out with my fingers first…A brush just don’t do it, then use about twice the amount of shampoo and work the remaining knots of in the shower, then the last of them with conditioner. And a deep conditioning after a day of riding is a must..
Anybody got a better technique I’d love to hear it…
girlie600 10-03-2005, 01:08 AM I have the damned "wavy hair" that I end up straightening anyway which is a little past chin length.
The only prob I have is about 2" on the ends that stick out of my helmet. I can just run my fingers through when I'm finished riding. I'm used to the wind blown hair from driving my JEEP now THAT can get messy!
Try getting that non rinse conditioner? and applying a small amount after your done riding and before you run your fingers through.
AngiiRockinC 10-03-2005, 01:12 AM I have long (middle of my back) wavy hair, that gets tangled even in a braid. So I use a spray in- leave in conditioner after I ride before I try and brush it out. You can get it at Sally's Beauty Supply. It is an ION product. I can't remember the name of it but it's in a pink and white spray bottle
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-03-2005, 01:16 AM Girlie 600 - Great idea!! I'll give that a try...Hey you got a Jeep too?? Awsome.. I have 99 Wrangler and love it...

of course I have a Jeep!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif I have a 97 Wrangler. How long have you had it?
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-03-2005, 01:24 AM For about a year now, it's my second one...Next summer I'm gonna put a 3" lift on it, 33" tires, a winch, off road lights...etc...Then I'm gonna get it painted up to match my bike..

I've had her for about 3 years. I had always wanted a Wrangler... the parents said I was insane getting rid of my new dodge neon (pwr lock pwr windows AC) for this Jeep. I don't care it was the best move! I love her to death!

TelfonoMvistr750t 10-03-2005, 03:36 AM i have long curly hair too..i put mine in a pony tail and tuck it into my jacket......not hard
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-03-2005, 03:40 AM Oooohh that would be too itchy....
TelfonoMvistr750t 10-03-2005, 03:47 AM Oooohh that would be too itchy....
how?...it never touchs your skin? unless you dont wear anythign under your jacket. it sure as hell is better than pulling your hair out to untangle....doing something sensible would just be way to damn hard for this forum
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-03-2005, 04:42 AM Well personally I have the kind of hair that can work its way through multiple layers so your theory along with the accompanying cynicism doesn’t really work…Gee, who’d a thunk it, somebody actually has different hair then you…Ooooohhh, Ahhhhhhh will wonders never cease..
Blitzergixxer 10-03-2005, 06:49 AM You what I do for my hair? I get a Zero Razor Fade every Sunday and maintain the Marine look I have to. pirategirl 10-03-2005, 06:50 AM As soon as I get home, I wash my hair first instead of trying to get the tangles out with a brush. I use Paul Mitchel's Super Skinny shampoo and conditioner and it works wonders. I have long wavey hair and this stuff makes my hair virtually tangle free. Hope this helps http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

rowdyrednekgurl 10-03-2005, 12:02 PM Ponders if she should put her 2 cents in or not....
Oh well what the hell...
First of all on the actual topic at hand on this thread.... everyone's hair is different and needs to be treated accordingly...
Here in Florida... I rarely wear a jacket so the sticking it in my jacket is not an option plus it has varying lentghs... so a pony tail with or with out a jacket isn't an option either...
But everyday I used a leave-in conditioner and a straightening lotion so when I do ride most of the time it is not an issue getting the tangles out...
On Demi Moore.... if we all had all the plastic surgery that she has had.. we would look damn hott too... plus the time for personal trainers...but Go Figure...
And getting a young guy...that is definately easy... if ya want pirategirl.. i can take ya out to Ybor one weekend... and you can have all the youngins you want.... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/yumyum.gif
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-03-2005, 12:19 PM Hmmm, I'm bettin you and Pirategirl are hotties without any damn plasticity....

Reason I say that is because he came across as a serious dork and acted like a retard. Maybe Demi Moore likes that sort of thing.

coyotesgal 10-05-2005, 08:01 AM I don't like leave in conditioners cause my hair is kinda oily anyway. I never thought about putting it in after I ride though. I have hair just below my shoulders so I usually put it in a ponytail and then put another band halfway down. You know, like the harley guys. I don't really like it but it works.
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-05-2005, 08:08 AM Oh yeah..I was so busy insulting micosack fluffystick there I forgot we were talkin about hair...
My mane is horrible, it's naturally curly, frizzy and tangle all by itself without riding..Allot of times I just say the heck with it and let it go POOF!!

05gixxerjockey 10-06-2005, 03:06 AM just a little tip... to prevent helmet head i put a bandanna over the top of my head to prevent my hair from taking the shape of the foam inside. this wouldn't help much for the hair outside the helmet but, it could help you with the hair in the eyes thing that was mentioned a while back in here.
Robben 10-06-2005, 09:42 PM My ex has one of those long leather ponytail things. They sell 'em at the harley shops. Good for long hair. Just pick one that doesn't have chrome studs or HD logos on them. Once you get where you're going, it comes off easy. They snap together so cutting it to the right length for your hair isn't a problem. The little bit of hair hanging out the bottom of it doesn't tangle much at all, she used to say.
Me, well, I shave my head these days, but I used to fight with the tangles when I had my long hair. It was a beotch, and usually had to work the main tangles out with my fingers first. Took about a half hour. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-06-2005, 10:57 PM Hey now that's a cool idea..I may just look into that one..Thanks Robben http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Robben 10-06-2005, 11:41 PM The idea actually came from my sister, who's been riding HD for years. She has really long, thick hair. I think her leather tail thing was over 12". Except for the Harleys, I always thought she was the practical sibling. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

What about giant oil leaking paperweights?!?! I hear they're good for that, or for blowing over 20 grand.
allprobmx 10-09-2005, 12:34 AM pretty sure they good for attempting to blow me off the road, some of them things shed wind liek a semi.
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-09-2005, 01:35 AM Yup, allot of those Harley riders are pretty homo...Probably been raped too many times in prison to like girls anymore..What's shocking is that you'd pull over for em and let a Harley rider blow you...I think you're family there allprob..Time to fly the rainbow....
allprobmx 10-09-2005, 02:03 AM hey mang, dont harsh my mellow, my dad and mom both ride harley's. If your looking for the gay ones, get the guy that ride the huge ass V stars and shit, they have huge bike just to have huge bikes, not for the harley sound or anyting... i happen to like my petite curvey ride. Oh and i like riding my gixxer too.
Kiri Rocket Rider 10-09-2005, 02:09 AM Hmmm, Harley's are an $18,000 oil slick in your drive way that you have to lock-tight every nut, bolt and screw on to keep em from falling apart...They purty and all, they even sound cool, but they're waaaayyy over priced for a bike that was'nt engineered in the same universe where the word "reliable" exists....

Such hatin' in here. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/hip.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Actually, my sister's been riding for over 30 years. She started on a Suzuki, a 125, I think. A 60s model. When I saw her on her first Harley, I asked her what year it was... she said which part? She and a friend built the bike.
It's all in fun, she knocks my sportbike preference, I kid her about her Harleys.

1stSgt 05-15-2006, 01:43 PM Hey now no harley bashin, I have a 79 HD racing team roadster and love it. It only drips a few drops of oil but what harley dosent.
ariesXXtreme 05-15-2006, 03:00 PM Just read through the entire thread...pheww..lol
I can relate to a lot of you in here, naturally wavy hair, thick and long, about 3 inches from my waist. As I was reading I just thought instead of that leather thing, would tying bands throughout the length of the ponytail prevent it from tangling? This wouldn't leave any 'free' strands.
TattdMartha 05-15-2006, 04:34 PM I have med-long hair, kinda wavy but i straighten it almost daily and use a Redken Leav-in Conditioner and anti-frizz serum. When im out, i put on a bandana to help out with the "helemt head" look, plus it keeps the hair from wiggling out into your face or ears, and then i braid the length and have no problems. If you do this while your hair is still wet, the "system" works wonders on my hair, i get anti frizzy hair with beautiful even waves at the end of the day! Hope this helps... Ohh yeah and heres my arsenol of hair products that gets rotated depending on the weather...

Fiddy_Ryder 05-15-2006, 05:37 PM i like to pull my chicks hair when i ride her.
pnkpnthr2133 05-15-2006, 05:45 PM i have long curly hair too..i put mine in a pony tail and tuck it into my jacket......not hard
I do the same thing. Works the best and it keeps your nice straightened hair from going wavy again. You could probably also try curling it into a bun at the very top of your head and then putting the helmet on. I used to do that when my hair was too short to tuck into my jacket.
GixxerNic 05-15-2006, 07:27 PM Ive thought about the bandana idea for hat helmet hair before. Its a good idea. I straighten my hair too so Id want something that keeps it straight. Ive tried platting (braiding) my hair but I hate the kinks it leaves & Ive tried just tying it back & I end up with one big ball of matted hair.
Someone needs to invent a bandana with a leather (or other material) tie built in :).
Id do it but Im lazy lol.
Grandevil 05-16-2006, 01:53 AM cut it all off, works charms
Burberry 05-21-2006, 12:48 PM I have long curly hair just above my waist and I usually straighten it when I go out to ride and keep a brush with me and brush it everytime I stop to get off the bike. But I guess if you want to keep it curly, there really isn't any good solution except some really good leave in conditioner.
Burberry
ScaryHelmet 05-25-2006, 12:05 AM I just tried something new today. I always use the "leave in conditioner", then do a french braid and tie off the end of the braid. The NEW thing that I did was to also tie off the braid at the base of my head. You know, where your hair gets that fuzzy look, right under the back of your helmet? I use the small hair ties with a silky fabric, so it doesn't pull at your hair too much.
It seemed to help alot. I still have a few fuzzies, but less than half of what I usually get.
:)
geminigsxr 05-28-2006, 10:59 PM I find double french braids work the best because I can braid further down so only about an inch isn't secured so it's really easy to untangle, and helmet hair is pretty non-existant.
Angelise 05-29-2006, 02:08 PM I have straight hair....and it used to be this long and it was too uncomfortable (because it was thick) to stuff in my jacket.
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y277/Angelise25/Friends/haircut001.jpg
It was murder trying to comb out my hair after riding. I'd have tears in my eyes and lose a bunch of hair from it being so knotted. I lived by pantene colourtreated conditioner and detangling spray (herbal essances worked with ease) without the two I couldn't comb my hair.
I finally started riding with wet hair and braiding it...and then sectioning off hair with hair elastics down the lenght of the braid.
Sometimes when i layered my hair i'd still have difficulities. Never had the patience (and hate braiding my own hair) but i figure a heiringbone braid would probably done the trick).
http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=http://home.columbus.rr.com/dreamweavers/images/Examples/herringbones/Herringbone.jpg&imgrefurl=http://home.columbus.rr.com/dreamweavers/braid_examples_herringbones.htm&h=216&w=112&sz=8&hl=en&start=19&tbnid=WuyCT4c04Gq8_M:&tbnh=101&tbnw=52&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dherringbone%2Bbraid%26svnum%3D10%26hl %3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN
French braids wouldn't work because my hair was too slippery and the braid would get all loose once i took my helmet off.
Now that my hair is shorter than it was before and a few inches stick out, it doesn't get tangled as much but i've noticed lately the ends that stick out are very dry.
chick stang 04 07-11-2006, 12:28 PM I just put extra leave in conditioner in before hand and leave it. :punk
Grandevil 07-11-2006, 01:25 PM I cut all my damn hair off :crying
koreangrl 07-12-2006, 11:16 AM I brush my hair out, put it in a ponytail at the base of my head against my neck, and then I either braid it and/or you can use a series of bands sectioning off the ponytail as you get closer to the end. (Does that make sense?)
I know what you mean about getting it all tangled though if left out. :)
ariesXXtreme 07-12-2006, 11:20 AM I cut all my damn hair off :crying
How much did you cut off? I once cut all my hair off and cried after the first snip, the easily cut like a foot off. Now I just keep it long, it's my thing..known for my hair.
And I usually just put it in a ponytail and leave it out of the helmet when riding, it gets soo damn tangled and knotty..sheesh.
_Gixxerbabe_ 08-22-2006, 12:32 PM I have that thick long hair too, I just put like 4 pony tails all down to the tip, kinda school girl style. The pony tails keep my hair nice & tangle free, not to mention pain free! Taking apart those knots hurt!
Hope that helps!
joseph600 09-13-2006, 10:24 AM my sister just does a half-way pony tail , almost a bun in a way. no problem with that, no itcy mess either.
darwin 11-13-2006, 08:42 PM I hate dragging up old posts and I know since I'm a guy, I shouldn't be posting in here....
But thanks, this thread has been very informative... My hair is pretty damn long so I'll be trying some of these out to keep it manageable. :thumbup
GIXXERDK 11-13-2006, 11:22 PM I'm a guy with long hair and have problems with helmet hair! My hair will look funky after 2-3 hours of riding
See Steddy Win 11-14-2006, 05:08 PM lol...its been informative for myself...for my anti-forum gf...ill drag her in here one day...lol
STREET_ASSASSIN 12-27-2006, 09:42 AM Hey ladies, I thought I’d share my technique of dealing with rider’s hair for ya’ll..
Anybody got a better technique I’d love to hear it…
poor u...
i'm a dude, dunno if u'd take advice from me? ha ha
anyways this seems logical to me.... buy yourself a hair straightener and straighten ur hair before each ride? then ponytail it? plat?
or alternatively u could tuck it into your jacket...
punkadilly 12-27-2006, 09:45 AM Even straight hair in a pony tail knots . . . best bet is to braid your hair. I usually do the braided pig tails thing.
STREET_ASSASSIN 12-27-2006, 09:49 AM plat = braid.
gawd damn Aussies!;) :p
nunya 12-27-2006, 10:09 AM I am with Dilly mostly...
Except that I have to many layers in my hair, so I pull them into pigtails, and then I put rubber bands all the way down until the end. Usually four per side will do. My hair is to thick for one ponytail. It interferes with the helmet...and the other bonus to the rubber bands is that they weigh my hair down so I don't end up looking like pippy long stocking with I ride...Which is always good for comic relief.
Ride. 12-27-2006, 10:32 AM I saw this thread revival and feared Kiri was back.:sad
Phew. What a relief. :)
punkadilly 12-27-2006, 11:39 AM :spit Av :eek :lol
Yeah, one braid doesn't work well with a helmet . . . but splitting works. I don't have really thick hair so :o
gRemLiNpdp 01-20-2007, 04:40 PM I just have to say... I really enjoyed reading this thread! =) It's just so funny hearing riding issues from girls.... Things that guys will never have to discuss..... So here's my question to the thread....
What's wrong with tucking your hair into the helmet? Isn't that what most girls do in the movies? Then they take off the helmet and sweep their head from side to side letting their hair down... This is, of course, all done in slow motion, while the guys start drooling.... First shocked, cuz it's a girl riding... Then drooling... hehe

Only in the movies..hehehe
Malice 01-21-2007, 12:42 PM I have long wavy hair too. I always ride with a braid or two, saves me for a lot of trouble

Well, I like the guys to see that it's a girl that just passed them on the track :biggrin
deadgarage 01-21-2007, 08:52 PM ole' hippy technique,
Pick a nice soft/old T shirt...
Put it on, if you have long hair make sure you pull it out of the collar.
Got It?
Now pull your your arms out ...Hmmm...like your going to remove or swap a bra with a shirt/blouse on...
OK so far?
Then just pull the front of the shirt over your head with the collar ending up on your hair line..
You can put a coat/jacket on and it will hold the T shirt and your hair in place or tuck the whole thing down the collar of the shirt/blouse that you are wearing for the same effect. I'm 56 and have forgotten more about maintaing LONG hair than you ever will. Mine's still down below the shoulder blades. Split ends in the extreme are a nightmare. If you don't French braid use a scrunnchy or something wider than those thin bands.
Adjust collar and hair as necessary.
Easy to do hard to explain.
Works great painting cars or houses as well.
Other tips from the once young...
Facial, skin complexion...
I never had zits but a few of my lady friends over the years would occasionally develope a couple dozzies. Especially on long rides, cross country, or hot weather /bad food combinations.
Trust me this works.
If you have oily skin or it developes in the heat, or, if you get zits from grit being forced into your pores (happens, shield or not).
Buy and apply some clearasil or other skin drying agent -I think, not sure- that a powder BASE makeup might work too. Prior to riding.
Wash it off when you get where your going.
FWIW
Most women start suffering from aging/drying skin/wrinkles way before it affects guy's. The more/longer you ride the sooner it happens. Sorry...
Back in the day we didn't have UV protective cremes so things might be a little different.
Might be a good research project for the Gixxer Girls to work on. Good luck.
Have fun Ladies but remember: Riding is a way of life, but, not life itself.
gixxie750 01-29-2007, 02:41 PM First sorry girls i'm posting here, but i saw this thread and had to say something. I have a little longer than shoulder length hair. I just wake up on riding days take a shower and condition it and while its still a little wet i put on my helmet. all the hair in the helmet stays strait, but the hair exposed to the wind looks like hell and i have no idea what to do with it but let it be crazy. what can i do?
i just tuck the front of my hand behind my ears and put a bobbie pin in my bangs to hold them back, and leave my hair hang out it doesnt get in the way or ill put it in a low pony tail
