They over GUESSTIMATED and said that at the worst it could be is 7.4 million, but even that would be as high as it would go.

Amy269 09-30-2005, 04:03 PM Its carried by chickens? Looks like the Mexicans are fucked.
It was just a joke, please dont say I am a racist. My sons father's cousin (also is neighbor) has a chicken for a pet and it watches TV w/ my son...maybe I should put a stop to that... Anyways they are PR not Mexican.

That is until it is transmittable h2h. That is where the 100mil+ fatalities come into play.
The avian flu has a pretty damn high mortality rate.
Roche does not make a vaccine; they make a product called "tamiflu", which can help to fight the influenza. It isnt a cure, however.
The vaccine takes 6-12 months to make a dose, and there are less than 2.5 million doses. Believe me, the US is nowhere NEAR the top of the list for the vaccine OR tamiflu. There is a MAJOR shortage of both.
Still expecting 50+ million fatalities worldwide once af goes h2h.
This is no cakewalk; there is not a single person on this planet with anti-bodies, or resistance to this, as no one has been exposed to the strain.
I can post links, etc if you'd like.
GSXR_ROB 09-30-2005, 04:50 PM They just made the official numbers today after they first guesimated it high. They had the interview on CNN this evening.
night ryder 09-30-2005, 04:57 PM once it hits a big city, it will be all down hill from there http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif
Amy269 09-30-2005, 05:03 PM Why did I have to read this? Now I am getting freaked out. Couldnt we just do a mass bird takeout? Like they do when canker hits the orange trees down here, they quarentine the area and cut the f'ers down. Guess this is a little scarier than a moldy orange... So how doyou get it? From the air or what?
Rev. Intrigue 09-30-2005, 05:05 PM They just made the official numbers today after they first guesimated it high. They had the interview on CNN this evening.
It doesnt matter what you saw on CNN. This has been the running opinion of microbiologists for a while now.
When (if) the influenza becomes H2H; it will spread like wildfire. It will take 1-3 weeks to reach NYC, LA, Paris, London, and Philadelphia.
If H5N1 goes H2H, it will infect millions of people before symptoms even begin to show.
Those people will infect millions more.
Then the first group will start showing symptoms.
And so on and so on.
40-50% of the infected will die. They have enough vaccine for 2.5m worldwide.
Amy269 09-30-2005, 05:08 PM I'll be living underground w/ my son for the next 6 months if anyones looking...

night ryder 09-30-2005, 06:16 PM just think about what chaos will happen. all these people know that they are going to die. thats just like that song by mase, that says" if you had 24 hours to live, what would you do? who would you screw? and who would you notify that yo ass about to die".
but on the bright side all the politicians would prolly get attacked since everybody hate them, and this would be even more of a reason.

That's all assuming the bug mutates with the ability to go from human to human. As of right now, it's still bird to human; so it's OK.
But if it mutates (and there is a chance it will), and I end up catching it and starting to die... I'm going to the dealership, financing a 1k, and blasting the fuck off in style.

This particular avian flu is pretty much new. Enough so that no one has any natural resistance to it.

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif How? Do you have to eat the bird? Is it from their body fluids getting into yours like w/ HIV? Is it airborn? I dont have any kinda damn birds around me but my sons father has some at his house I think...regular little whatevers, finches I think. Those'll be gone by this afternoon you can be sure of it. Well, wait, they dont go outside so they'd be ok still. But his neighbors chicken sure aint gettin to play w/ my son anymore. It runs free outside. Funny thing is is my sons pitbull plays w/ it like another dog. No aggression towards it at all. She kicked some other dogs asses when they were trying to kill it. Maybe they knew something we didnt back then...http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Amy relax
It is located in south east asia for now
It come from all fowl
Chickens ducks etc...
Roche has 2 million doses in the US alone
They are based out of switzerland
Granted the vaccine isn't a cure all and this could get nasty but don't be freaking out. I never let my kids play with birds of any sort thay are full of nasties anyhow
It takes 9 months to produce a vaccine
This is something to worry about but you don't need to get all hyper over it

Rev. Intrigue 10-01-2005, 03:05 PM Amy, It's airborne; transmitted from the air. It can live for 3-4 days in the open atmosphere, and can travel 1-2km.
Don't count on ever being able to get tamiflu (which is the roche produced drug; and it is NOT the vaccine. it is a 'treatment' option).
I worked in a pharmacy for quite a while; and believe me, tamiflu is tough to get. We would get a shipment of 75 boxes in, and they would be gone within 2 days. That's not even flu season.
It's overprescribed, and very difficult to find. If a major flu epidemic hits, it will be gone before you can blink; believe me.

LMAO, yeah maybe you're right..,.
Amy269 10-01-2005, 10:18 PM OK, at least now I know a little more than I did before. i wasnt sure if it was in the US or what so thanks for the info. I guess I can let my son out of his plastic bubble for the time being.
SuZgSxRk5 10-02-2005, 01:20 AM correct it is airborn and slight cases of it where already reported in the us.. trust me i know from expirence untreated it feels like death .. you crap your brains out your intestines fee like they wanna jump out of your body and you cant eat a thing for days.. in places where they are already starving and weak thats why it will kill so many .. and as far as not catching it you can catch it from having a conversation over dinner with someone who has the illness and will take around 3 days to set it . naturally in elderly people it will kill fast in younger people like myself you can get over it in maybe about 2 weeks if treated properly sux big hairy balz trust me
Rev. Intrigue 10-02-2005, 06:15 AM naturally in elderly people it will kill fast in younger people like myself you can get over it in maybe about 2 weeks if treated properly sux big hairy balz trust me
That's not exactly true. Since no one has antibodies and resistence to this strain of influenza, it kills everyone just as easily. And it has a 40-50% mortality rate. Which means 40-50% of people who catch it, will die (regardless of age, location, etc).
This isn't your average flu. This is much.. Much.. Worse.
The dems in congress are calling for FOUR BILLION dollars in relief fund for this already.

The viruses mutate. eventually it can be transfered from human to human. When that happens, it will be similar to the outbreak in the 1920s.

By healthy I mean those w/o overly suppressed immune systems and not deficient in nutrients like 3rd world country residents can be. Most of us would fit into that. I don't consider myself fit (any longer) and still wouldn't be phased by this birdy virus.
