OK, I got this idea in Politics and Current affairs in a thread about ignoring Lauho69. He had mentioned something about matching wits or IQ's or something. I accepted his challenge as I said I would go find an online test and then post my score. Here's mine. I took it twice (two different tests) and got 133 both times. So I am asking all of you to take it and show your scores. Yes, show them cause we dont want anyone lying. I have no idea if mine is average or what so dont make fun of me.

Well a legitimate, or complete I.Q. test is actually done in three sections..Problem solving, Math and science, and vocabulary. Some state job services offices offer testing, colleges usually can get one done, but you'll likely have to pay for it.

I had one done due to being a client of the Ohio Bureau of Vocational Rehab..I came out 128 math and science, 139 problem solving, and 135 vocab..

The national average is between 95 and 110, Genius I think is 180..

Yeah, when I was in school, we were told that only a PhD Psychologist could administer the standard IQ test. At the time ('99), Psychologists were charging about $1500.00. My class took some alternative tests for fun and to break up the monotony of studying Industrial Psych. I scored in the 140 range for visual acuity, a bit lower in verbal skills, and only 120 something in logic puzles. The median score for the standard IQ test is 100 and the average college student scores 1 standard deviation above, or 112. We were studying the validity of tests in general and the standard IQ test is one that is quite controversial. Critics claim it only tests the quality of an individual's education, not true intelligence. The ones we took were developed to replace the standard test and were based on speed in problem solving/pattern recognition, logic, and visual acuity. Educators agree that the standard IQ test is the best one to date and probbably won't be replaced any time soon. There are also different types of intelligence that most people don't think of. Basketball players, for instance, are coordinating their body movements with free flowing offensive and defensive stategies. Racecar drivers are calulating speed and fuel consumption, and so on, and so on... I worked with a guy who was a member of MENSA. He told me not to be too impressed with that stuff. He told me it was a money making organization, first and foremost. He also said that Marilyn Voss Savant (sp?) , who is intelligent, has taken the standard IQ test many, many times, so it's no surprise that she scores so high. I don't know if that's true or not. Could be hearsay.

I had to take one two years ago in school in order to get accepted to a program which lets you go to college part-time, and high-school part time (took ap world lit, and ap computer science).

I scored something like a 157; so I was content with being above average.

My best friend at the time (still is) scored in the high 160s. He is far better in math than me, however (kid works out complex trig faster than I can get my pencil and paper ready).

I don't buy into the online tests too much, our test was pretty damn long (a few hours if I remember correctly), and we had a time limit (similar to an SAT).

When we finished the IQ test, we were required to take preliminary tests in the subject, but that is going way off topic.

OK, so I've heard of Mensa but what is it? I went onto the site and I can take the test for like $18 but is it an IQ test or what? I'm gonna take it I think but only if its a real IQ test. I'm not too concerned with whether or not Mensa thinks I qualify to be a member...or should I be...? I just really want to know what my damn score is. I used to score higher than anyone in the county and state on those stupid standarized tests in school (SAT's etc.) but I had a ba head inury when I was younger that messed me up a little and I have always wondered if it affected my testing skills or whatever you would call it. I have actually had a lot of head injuries...what the hell?

The "can-spam" laws require that the spammer must have a certain amount of data involved with a particular email address in order to send ad's to it. These IQ tests are one of many spammer tactics to obtain "data" from the end user. The more data they can compile on a particular email address (ie: ip, name, addy, ect) the more valuable that email becomes.

By harvesting such information, they can more or less create their own "opt-in" email lists or even "double-opt" lists worth gobs of money. They'll use the emails for their own campaigns, and then sell off the lists as if they were legitimate because of all the "data" attached with each email.

Testing is next month, October. They give you 2 IQ tests. Your IQ is not a finite thing and your results will vary according to tests t6aken and also when you take them. Are you here to make contributions to the site, help others out, or is this your playground where you exercise your mighty IQ. Your friends in MENSA may be impressed, but that is all. There is not a practical purpose for an IQ test other than to swell your ego. Actually, I did nopt start this. I posted the fact that I was a member of MENSA and they needed to provide proof of their claims. Since that point I have never pointed out my membership except AFTER someone else has brought it up. However the idiots on this board continue to make statements concerning it and try and attribute them to me. this is what you are referring to. The thread you are thinking of was me asking sparkles and the others to back up their claims since it was once again October, which is national testing month. I will AGAIN post it next October since it appears that the cowards will fail to back up their mouths.

Upon graduating, I have a well paying career in the civil defense industry as a mechanical engineer.I guess being guess being less intelligent really has hampered my life. I have more hours than most people since I take one or two classes a semester for the past 20 years, I just have no need or desire for any degree and just take whatever piques my interest. According to the IRS I am in the top 10% in income. I do nothing except tell people what to do, which takes me about 1 to 2 hours a day and I spend the rest of the day on the internet, sailing, riding my motorcycles, racing or anything else that tickles my fancy. I take 6 or 8 weeks vacation a year to go SCUBA diving, explore Inca, Mayan & Aztec ruins or just go exploring. All of this because I have enough sense to know what needs to be done, when it needs to be done and who to tell to do it.

Actually I don't consider what I have done to be impressive. Most people could do a lot better if they applied themselves. I worked 70 and 80 hour weeks when I was younger. I worked inthe rain, snow, cold and heat. I did without playthings and time off in order to get ahead. I spent 8 years living in hotels (I didn't even have a house or apartment) and travelling around the country. I sacrificed a lot when I was younger but it now pays off. If someon is willing to work hard they can get ahead. I've found that most people would rather complain about the lack of opportunity or blame their problems on someone else than put in the work needed to get ahead.

Do I think that I could have succeded with a lesser IQ? Definately.

I started this thread and it came from a discussion in another thread about ignoring Laohu69 where, if I am not mistaken, he challenged all of us or maybe only a select few to battle of wits or IQ's or something. I posted the fact that I was a member of MENSA and they needed to provide proof of their claims. Since that point I have never pointed out my membership except AFTER someone else has brought it up. However the idiots on this board continue to make statements concerning it and try and attribute them to me. this is what you are referring to. The thread you are thinking of was me asking sparkles and the others to back up their claims since it was once again October, which is national testing month. I will AGAIN post it next October since it appears that the cowards will fail to back up their mouths.

To the poster asking how I got into College the same year I dropped out of the 9th grade - testing. I took the CHSPE (California High School Profeciency Exam) which was supposed to be the same as a GED (but I found out several years later when enrolling in U of A that CA is the only state that accepts it and I had to retake the GED). I scored so high on that that I then took SAT's (along with more IQ tests than I thougt existed).

Torque, I don't know either of you, but IF the guy runs a company and is willing to get into a ditch and dig to get a project completed on time I would rather have someone like him running the company I work for then have it continue to be run by the people who currently do. I might not be a genius, (I only have a GED) but I know that when a person is willing to leave the air conditioned office to complete some critical part of a project they should be applauded, not insulted.
