Crap-E day. Rebuilding a Y2k hayabusa, reassembled the motor, oiled everything up good, timed the cams, turned the motor over by hand, rechecked the timing, installed the motor, hooked up everything, added all fluids, hit the starter and SNAP! The exhaust cam broke between the #4 lobes. Has anyone else heard or had an expirience like this? Any insight?
Clarification: I am not some dumbshit shadetree mechanic, I work on bikes for a living, but this is recreation.

Man that is rough.
I had my ex cam split also. It was due to some shitty mechanic not putting in an auto CCT in right. Apparently the cam chain was so loose it got tangled up with the cam and ended up splitting it.
Check your CCT it might not have added tension and the same thing might have happened to you images/icons/smile.gif

Man I feel for you, that would make me take a sledge hammer to something.
If it wasn't what Flesh said I'd have to say the cam was defective images/icons/mad.gif graemlins/crying.gif

I have a exhaust cam available or a intake for the dual intake setup for sale out of a 2001 with about 400 miles on them. If I can help email me at Tobinoc@adelphia.net

If you drop a cam shaft it can shatter or crack. If it was dropped before installation it could have unseen cracks. Remember the cams are hollow.

The best I can do is refer you to www.suzukihayabusa.org (http://www.suzukihayabusa.org) there's alot of gear heads over there and if its happened before chances are somebody over there will have some ideas as to why it happened. Not guess's, Dennis, the one that runs that site is a pretty sharp guy and very helpfull too! He has built some sick ass turbo bikes too! graemlins/thumbup.gif

The only bright side is that it was the exhaust cam. Busa people like to run two intakes, so there must be a million exhaust cams out there for the asking.
