all right. i don't know quite where to begin on getiing ready for my first track day. i need help from the experienced track day riders. i want to attend the motorsports ranch in fort worth in October. i hear you don't have to drain your fluids and do too much to your bike.

there is just not enough SAFE roads to get your skills together in Dallas. i hate people who just want to haul ass on the strait ass highways. i want twisties. the only place to learn to get your knee down the RIGHT WAY is on the track.

so to get to the point. what's a good expectation of my first track day? should i buy my own one piece leathers or rent theirs? right now i have mesh pants, mesh jacket, leather jacket (agv), leather gloves(that go above the wrists and have carbon fiber protection), sidi boots, and obviously a (arai)helmet. what do i have to take off the bike to get on the track? how much money do i need to bring? i have pilot powers are those okay to do a track day on ? i have pretty much a stock bike. don't need mods until i can push the bike to the limits. thanks for the advice.

id say call up the track your going to go to and ask them what their exact requirements are. if your going to be doing a lot of track time and or twisty street time, get a decent suit for yourself. i have pilot powers and thats what im going to use when i go to the track here soon. again i would just call up the track your going to visit and ask them everything you will need. every track has their own rules

just tape all glass, the'll check that at tech

take off mirrors, tape headlight, blinks, tail light ( i also pull fuses). pilot powers will work fine for you since your so new at it. As u get faster, i switched now to pilot race and have found a huge difference and confidence in my riding. to be able to run the track day: do the taping and have decent tire life left in your tires. BRING GAS. If u want to spend the cash then buy a suit anywhere from $300ish maybe to a thousand. But if your just wanting to see if its something u want to do, then just rent them the first time, but don't expect quality stuff out of it. Before u come to the track - just do a complete look over. Everything is tightened properly, good brakes ( bleed them before coming out) good tred left in the tires, and nothing wrong with the bike, as far as being able to handle her in a safe manner.

I'm assuming your doing the ride smart event oct. 24? something like that. MSR is a tight track with nothing above 3rd. While all I've done is at Texas World Speedway which varies from 2nd to 6th. But I've got a group of buds heading up to MSR for the next track day, but I can't make it. I'll be at TWS though this friday. So take care.

I'd bring your lunch (its up to you) - just have money to pay for entry (unless u did it previously) bring some gas, your lunch, and maybe some cash for some grub on the way home. Your going to be tired. Drink a ton of water the day before and during the day. Most people get there the night before and camp out. so good luck with it.

if you are close to average size, then first time rent the leathers. then if you decide that you are going to be doing it again (and again, and again and again http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) then get one-piece leathers that fit properly. fit is much more import that brand.

i've found my new leathers to be. they are the komodo pro series. i like the protection factor and definitely am going to start riding track days. i think i will do my first track day at TMS near DFW then try college station when i can afford a trailer.

overall right now all i need is one set. i am 6'4'' and 200lbs, not quite the average size. that's why i am going to buy my own. plus i dont like using other people shit.

i'm 6'1" almost 6'2" and 200lbs - there are plenty of leathers out there for u

I'd go for MSR before TMS - MSR is in creson. thats not far from you.
TWS is going to make you wet your leathers till you get used to her speeds.

besides, there is hardly any events (maybe one all year) at TMS

its another 5hrs north as it is 5hrs south to me.

Its hallett. I'd probably go to MSR before hallett. Its right next to you. I've not been ON MSR to tell you if its any better though. Hallett is a little older of a track so I think.
