Well shit.. Got rammed by a damn cager....I need some advice...

I was riding home on the carpool lane on the 91fwy in Anaheim. I was making a pass on the right portion of the carpool lane when some moron made an abrubt move to exit the carpool lane crossing the double yellow lines!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bash.gif

I tried to react but he nailed me on the left portion of the bike hard, sending me into the fastlane..... By now, i've lost control of the bike and i'm hard braking to prevent rear ending another car who is also hard on the brakes in awe of what just happened.

In shock, i look over and notice the two fellas that hit me keep on goin down the freeway!..

I wave him out to pull him over and he eventually starts to fade in with me.
By now, i've calmed down tremendously, but am still pretty shaken...Loads of adrenaline pumpin...
It turns out this numbnut has no CA license and is NOT insured. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif All he had was a damn Mexico license?!! (or at least some form of Mexican ID). No registration, nada!
I gather as much info as I could and gave him mine.
He told me that he'd pay for all the damage, but it wasn't reassuring at all.

There isn't too much damage on the gix...Broken lever, mirror, left fairing has some fresh Honda Civic paint on it... Overall, the Gix did ok. As for me, aside from a small scrape on my foot, I think I made out fine. I'm happy to be alive!!! Fuhged up my steeltoe boots though. I think the steel plate may have dug into my foot. Slight soreness on my right arm and leg, but it's tolerable ( I hope it doesn't get worse ).

Now, for the advice..

How much should I tell the boy to fork over?
Should I have called the cops (CHP) ?
If this guy tries to duck me, should I hunt him down? ( I have is home address, just minutes from my job)

damn glad to hear you and your bike are alright, that could have resulted in a totaled bike, a trip to the hospital, and possibly death, or all three....L.A. seems like a chaotic place to be on a bike with all that traffic...BTW good job on chasin him down, it would have really sucked if he got away....just for the simple fact he tried to drive off i would give him an outrageous price for the damage, 1500 or more depending on what it takes to fix your bike....and if he doesn't pay it, go to his house and burn it down

I got rear ended in my car by some douchbag homie in his Expedition on Rt 80 last summer, I was late as it was getting to the airport to pick someone up and the highway was full of traffic, no way a cop was going to make it out there in time and he was figgity to leave, my 1st big mistake. I took down all the guys info...............think I every heard from him again? HA! I spoke to my uncle who is an atourney and he told me it's going to cost more than the price of the damage (which was about $600) to track the guy down and get him into court. Unfortunately in my case I live in northern NJ and this asswipe lives in like southern PA, in the end it's really not worth my time and trouble.

2) You should've just pulled alongside him, and gave his mirror an elbow smash tearing it off the car and then taken off. You would've felt better about the fact that the damn boarderjumper nearly killed you.

What up MegaChino...dam i sorry to here your bike was in an accident...i would of been so piss i would of probably want to fight...anyhow glad you came out alright and saved your bike...do you have a license for mc and current and insurance if so i would of called the chp and insurance co. .....they would of took awhile ..once i heard 2hrs or so (chp to arrive)...i would definetaly go get estimates asap(three min)...and take it so him asap....being truthful and i hope im wrong i doubt hell pay or at least not all...also you may want to call your insurance especailly if you have full coverage if only liability then thats up to you....if you have full coverage they pay all your damage and go after that guy...buy the way i doubt you have unisured motorist right....also did you say the car was a mexico license plate or his id ...if car is ca license plate then you need to write down the license plate number and get the info of who the registered owner and there insurance on the vehicle...all in all do everything asap even if you have to miss school or work one day in my opnion...also i heard you can report "you were in accident" if you go to highway patrol but he must be present with his vehicle that hit u and you bike......i hope this helps you out..i am by now mean an expert...i hope everything works out for you...by the way if i was you one estimate would be color zone in huntington beach they paint BAD ASS (in a good way)...this is just my .02cents http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

As for his mirror, my gix already destroyed it.

I would have knocked the dude right the fuck out. I wear carbon fiber knuckled gloves, that would have taught him a lesson. (or at least I think the CF would withstand a punch?) Unless this guy (illegal alien) told you the truth about the address and such youre screwed. I gave an illegal alien a DUI once. He had no insurance, no regastration, etc, and blew a 0.23! Did he ever show up for court? Hell no! If youre an illegal alien you have it made....well at least for getting out of shit. Sorry for the rant, but these fucks get away with murder....literally!

What to do? He's probably illegal so you will have to deal with it differently. Ccall him, then visit him with a friend and make him pay cash on the spot.

If you have his address, don't call, just show up, make sure its outside of regular work hours.

If you arrive and he is not there, tell whomever answers the door that you will call the cops if he is not called and made to come home.

Go there with your bike, so that he can see what happened. But park your bike far from the house so they don't see you coming. Just be calm in your dealings, and don't lose your head.

Forget about revenge and all that, just thank your lucky stars you're alive. Just make him pay.

Always call the police in a situation like that unless they are gonna give you cash on the spot. This guy also would have been charged with hit and run, if you can find out where he lives. Most likely your beat next time call the police no matter how little the damage. Being we're talking about an accident here's some advice for everyone if you ever cause an accident never admit fault or apoligize. I know you didn't cause this one so that's kind of irrelivent.

First off, ALWAYS CALL THE POLICE!! Even if it's a fender bender or something minor. There are so many fuckers out there, you need that extra bit of influence. I once tried to be a nice guy and not call when this guy rear ended my Explorer. He gave me his cell phone number and said "I'll take care of everything." I called his cellphone number a few mintutes later and it was a bum number. I tracked him down, however, with the other info I had and called the cops. The officer told me that while they hate doing that kind of stuff and you'll probably wait an hour for them to show, it's really best to get them involved.

take it to "color zone" (get a qoute)get the whole bike repainted and buy a mirror, clutch lever probably all for 9Benjamins(give or take) i would think, or you can paint(1pc) it for 150 give or take but it just painted with no decals then then decals will cost you but remember this will look newer then the rest of the bike....

Well, $45 each for the mirror and lever, and at least a few hundred for the repainting, and that'd be if you had a friend that does paint. Maybe PM Beesting, Quig, or that paint pimp guy and ask what they'd charge to repaint a bike, then tack on the cost of some tapeworks graphics.

I'd say ask for a grand if it's going to cost you 800 dollars just for the trouble. If it's going to cost you a grand, then ask for 1200 or so.

This is bullshit if you ask me and your time and trouble are worth something as well.

Just don't go overboard and ask for like 2 grand when it will only cost you 800 to fix it up.

Better to try and scare him with the cops and then try to collect personally from him. If you realize he's not gonna pay up then go ahead and at least even the score by causing a little "accidental" damage of your own to his car. He's a small fella, only about 5'5", maybe 140lbs....I don't think beating his ass silly would really solve anything... Plus, i rarely get violent.

As for him being an illegal alien....That's not certain either. He speaks english pretty well, but who knows....
