: 01 gsxr 750 questions...
punkture 08-15-2005, 02:24 AM i've recently acquired a salvage titled 2001 gsxr 750 along with what i was told is all of the paperwork since it was crashed. i've put a few miles on it and everything feels solid. its definitely going to be a project bike. per the paperwork, it seems as if the previous owner replaced the frame, motor, ecu, and injectors. the frame is from a 2001 gsxr 600. the motor is from a 2001 gsxr 750 as are all of the fairings. when i got the bike, the fairings were not on and as of current, it is missing the front fender. i got it home and started putting the lower fairings on when things started to seem a bit odd. this is where my questions come into play. firstly, 2 of the motor mounts don't line up. secondly, the left and right lower fairings extend about 3-4" too far forward. i've accepted that it is possible that the headtube or the frame may be bent, misaligned, or jacked in some shape or form (although visibly everything seems sound). my thinking is if the frame is indeed bent as much as it would have to be in order for the motor mounts and the fairings to be as off as much as they are, it would be unridable, or at least very obvious to the naked eye. from what i can tell through some research i've done, the 600 and 750 frames should be interchangeable, but from the looks of things so far they may not be. i've included pictures of my concerns. now i turn it over to the pros for some answers. many thanks in advance for some insight.

punkture 08-15-2005, 06:56 AM any ideas?
punkture 08-15-2005, 07:12 AM i read the answer to the motor mount question on another post indicating that the 750 motor and 600 frame are not completely compatible. i guess my main questions now are:
1.) Is this safe to ride (missing one motor mount on each side)?
and
2.) Any ideas on the misaligned fairings?
GSXtasy 08-15-2005, 11:28 AM No, get those motor mounts bolted up.
maulhead 08-15-2005, 01:55 PM Unsafe!!!! need those bolts in. 750 frame mite not be comp. with 600 fairings??? Good luck. mite have a bigger project in store for you. Keep asking ???'s. You WILL find answers somewhere!
soysauce021 08-15-2005, 05:36 PM sorry bro that rake is way off. Get it computraked, they might be able to fix it.
As for the motor mounts, the frames are not interchangeable and the best bet is to cut and reweld the mounts.
Hope ya got a killer deal on this cause its gonna cost ya a pretty penny to fix.
Ibidu1 08-15-2005, 06:08 PM Problem 1: Neck of the frame is pushed in and needs to be pulled GMD roughly charges from 800-1500 depends on how serious it is, and yours looks pretty bad.
Problem 2: Gsxr 750 and 600 frames are NOT the same. The top forward mount is off
If I were you, I would get on ebay buy a used frame with clean title for 1500, and sell your frame on ebay and state its tweaked that should get you 500-600 bucks.
punkture 08-15-2005, 11:17 PM if i ditch this project and start something new, what would be a fair asking price for the bike?
Jimmy 2 Times 08-16-2005, 01:16 AM ouch, that doesn't look good. either get a new frame, or go to comptracked (as said above)
punkture 08-16-2005, 03:49 AM i really appreciate the info guys! as i see it now, i have a few options. i can do a frame swap, sell the bike as is, or part the bike out on ebay. i could more than make my money back by parting out the bike but i could do without the headache of doing that. i don't really see the point in computracking the frame since the the frame and motor aren't compatible in the first place. my concern now is if i sell the 600 frame as is and ebay a 750 frame, i stand to chance getting burned if the new frame isn't perfect. any advice?
punkture 08-16-2005, 06:02 AM if i decide to do a frame swap, is there anything else i will need for compatibility? for instance, is the subframe, etc compatible with the 600 and 750 or will i need to replace the subframe as well. from what i can tell the frame is the only thing that has discrepencies, as the motor mounts do not line up perfectly.
punkture 08-17-2005, 03:05 AM i've found two frames. however, they are both 2002 gsxr 750 frames. is the 2002 750 frame fully compatible with all the 2001 750 parts? also, if i don't go for one of these frames, does any have or know where i can get a clean title 2001 750 frame?

2002 is the same frame as the 2001.
