Here’s the deal. I’m getting pretty fucking sick of these gas prices http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif and it doesn’t look like it’s gonna get better anytime soon! I hate the thought of using my bike as every day transportation but I feel like somebody is sticking it right in my ass!!! I take very well care of my bike to the point that my wife has made the comment that i'm going to rub the paint off!! I see other people at at work who have very nice sportbikes ranging anywhere from kaw 636, gixxers, R1 you name it. When it rains I see there bikes out there and I cant help but think there is no fucking way I would do that to her http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gifbut I’m starting to think that I could save quit a bit of money besides as much has I clean it what’s the difference anyway? Does anybody else feel the same way I do?

the only reason i dont like riding in the rain is the fact of getting wet (i dont ahve the proper rain gear) other than that i would http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

don't let the rain stop you, they clean up just like a car. i rode for years in the rain, now i'm more of a fair weather rider. try it for a while, if you don't like it, go back to using the cage

It depends on how much rain, a nice rain i can ride in, but i've been caught in hail storms with out a helment and that shit hurts!!!!!!!!!

yeah do it. Lifes too short to let rain stop you riding unless it's absolutely pissing down and hazardous.

I like to ride in it occasionally, helps keep you on your toes. I don't ride my bike to work as much as I should cause my thing is that I always feel like there is something in the truck I need. Like the other guy said, if you don't like it, just stop riding in the rain after you try it a time or two and clean it back up.

i love riding in the rain unless its flood level or something but alaska really has none of that. and snow really sucks to ride in i had that happen earlier this year. sun came out got up to about 60 for a week and then it promptly went away and the temp dropped to about 40 and that night driving home from work low and behold it snowed. you think the paint stripes are slippery in rain? yeah never going to do that again.

Costs less than a hundred bucks (and that's Cdn. prices) for a decent one piece rainsuit. Hell, I just saw one the other day at the dealer that looked cooler than my leathers. I want it, but I already own two now. They fold up small enough to put in the bottom of a tank bag, or wherever you stash stuff. Buy it big enough to wear over your gear.

As for the original poster's question, my car gets almost as good gas mileage as my bike, so it wouldn't save me any money. But I don't mind riding in the rain. I've spent hours chasing a sliver of clear sky on the horizon.

10 months a year here in Seattle, WA. I enjoy a nice ride in the rain. Plus it keeps the roads nice and clean.

We get some pretty nasty thunderstorms here in Houston, and I try to avoid that, but I actually enjoy a light rain during the summer. Keeps you nice and cool, and if you're tucked in right with a helmet, you don't get really that wet.

Suzuki Duke

Rain or shine here. My bike is my main transportation now, and the S. Florida summer dosen't leave me much choice. I bought a 2 piece rain suit this week, I think it's already paid for itself. You have to be extra careful with all the assholes slipping and sliding around in their SUVs with bald tires. But the worst thing by far is the heat. Rain suits keep you dry, but you have zero ventilation.

I do it alot. I had to for 6 years, didnt own a car, only the bike. Just put dry clothes in a plastic bag in a backpack so you wont be wet all day. It isnt so bad 'cause it only rains for a few weeks a year in San diego, but it makes the bike a mess. Not to mention that its like riding on ice. I remember getting on the freeway sideways at 80 many times. Very slick, but not a problem in the rest of the country.

I'm not afraid to ride in the rain. Here in FL we have 2-3 months of the summer where it rains every fricken day. It's like clockwork. I know I can get to work dry but I'll probably end up wet on the way home.

I do not ride in the rain and if it looks like it's gonna rain I wont ride. I've been caught in the rain quite a few times and hate it. On another note I don't know what your situation is but you gotta be pretty hard up for cash to start using your bike for main transportation when you own a car. I never take mine to work to much shit on the ground to get a flat and they wet the road down for dust control so that muddy water would splash up all over it.

If it's pouring rain when I open the garage, I might puss out.
Otherwise, there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad gear (and sometimes a dash of sissy tossed in).
Rain riding is one of the best environments for learning how to smooth out your actions.

I have ridden in the rain but I am with the author of the thread. I rode 50 miles on I95 during a S. Fla squall with no problems on my '99 R6 the Dlop 207's were great!! I don't ride my 750 in the rain partly because of the type of tires on it and also because I hate cleaning it after riding in incliment weather. Sure they might clean up like a car but there are WAY more nooks and crannies especially up around the "dash".

So today I went to school, there was one dark cloud, I'm about a half mile from class it starts to rain a little...just a drop or two, so I flip off the cloud. About a block away from the parking lot I'm aiming for, it starts POURING. I manage to get inside without having a completely et shirt which I might mention is a WHITE TANK TOP (with one of those built in bra deals so I wasn't wearing a real bra). So I messed up, didn't have class today after all, go back to the door...it's pouring twice as hard as it was when I pulled up. I wait a little bit, it dies down.

I get on the bike to put it up and get home (like a 1 mile trip) and it starts pouring again. I can't even get off campus before my shirt is completely see-thru meanwhile $200 of books are starting to get wet http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif And everybody and there mother got a great view of the twins too http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ott.gif That sucked.

On gas prices, quit yer whinging. Having lived in NC for three years you guys even with a few rises have it cheap as chips. Costs about $26-27 a pop to fill up the bike here in UK. How do you like them apples.

I've got a rainsuit that folds up into a small bag, it fits in my backpack with my other stuff with no problem, and it fits fine over my gear. The only thing that sucks is that it's hot as hell to wear.

Has anybody tried the Frog Toggs suits? I was talking about raingear with an old guy that rides a Goldwing trike (yes, we do make fun of him.) He says the Frog Toggs are the way to go.

Good, the only thing worth taking to heart are your own concerns. I'd just like for you to think of me if you crash in that attire, and I hope you never do, cringing at the pain thinking "Damn you Blaise, why didn't I heed your warnings? I just wanted to be cool.".
