got a message from a friend back in the states, he needs some input on motorcycle, i know its not a gixxer but i dont go to other forums, so i had to ask here..anyways here is what he said

"ok, the bike is a 99 or 2000 honda vfr 750, red, comes with jacket and helmet for $3000. what do you think? i haven't seen it yet, i dont know if its been laid down, but he said it runs great and he showed me a pic and it looks in good shape. Is that a good price for that bike? or can i find better"

personally i know jack shit about older hondas, so i dont wanna give him the advice, i guess its an ok starter bike but it is a big bike to start out on just a lil old, anyways if anybody got some input/advice plz feel free to do so, the help is greatly appreciated

thanks

My best buddy has a '97 VFR (the generation before that one). Great quality and very reliable - he has had it since new and has done ~75K miles on it with no major issues... Honda http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Very comfortable on long trips too. Don't know the prices over there, though...

But - it's not really a good first bike. Too powerful, too heavy and A LOT of Honda priced plastic to break if it gets dropped...

I've heard good things about the VFR nice bike but like SVS said too powerful and too heavy to start on.

The price is too low. What's the mileage on it? Has it been dropped in the past? Make sure your buddy runs the VIN and makes sure it's clean.

and never EVER take a helmet that comes with a bike unless it is brand new and in the box.

+1

You need the crushable liner inside to be fully intact, and it's not always possible to tell from inspecting it (unless it's x-rayed by the manufacturer). Here's a link to a good article that someone posted in another forum here recently http://motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/hatz/ . Apparently, decent helmets can be had for under $100. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

The VFR is a good bike, but it depends on what your buddy will be using it for. I'd rather have something else for track use, but the Honder would make a great sport-tourer.

10k is average for a 5yr old bike in most states (not in Cali). Still, it is cheap, but fat and expensive to crash.

make sure the bike has been serviced. those bikes are very pricey to have servicing done. decent price though, for 10k miles and jacket and helmet, as long as it's been taken care of.
