: Another car vs. bike article
Bagherra 08-06-2005, 02:58 AM In this months issue of SUPER STREETBIKE, they race a Ferrari 360 against an Aprillia Mille RSV R. The owner of the Mille has like $60,000 worth of mods in it to include a set of $9600 Ohlins forks. and yet the they claim the bike still only makes 150 RWHP. The bike still beat the car on the track by only a second.
In my opinion, I would think that you can take a GSXR and put less than half the $$ that guy put into it and still kick the car and bikes ass!!
Good article but it seems like they just wanted to use Italian exotics.
I still got mad love for the mag!!!!
gsxr313 08-06-2005, 03:08 AM I'd say a stock 1K would give the car an ass woopin' and stick with the Aprillia (depending on rider of course.)
nigletsyz 08-06-2005, 03:36 AM we had a 355 spyder over at our local 1/8mile drag strip a month and a half ago and it was running some DAMN quick times for a stock car. 7.5's I believe. Fast enough to beat some of the guys on the 600's there. But when it comes down to it, obviously A LOT has to depend on the rider/driver abilities and how consistant they are.
Grandevil 08-06-2005, 03:41 AM That's weird, the ferrari 360 modena (guess they used that and not the spyder) is even a little slower than the z06...they're the baseline ferrari.

I am pretty sure the magazine was talking about a real track (i.e. not one big circle and not one straight line)...

Ibidu1 08-06-2005, 05:53 AM I think they should get 2 professional racers. Rossi as the bike racer, and maybe Schumacher. Put them on the top notch equipment, give them a day of practise time with their new equipment.

On a full track, I think the F1 car would win, the can carry higher corner speeds. But WTF do I know http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Wouldn't even be close, the bike would be left way behind.
snocutt 08-06-2005, 01:51 PM the f1 can drive upside down with its downforce, it has 4 big sticky tires, doesn't have to shift cg, better aerodynamics, the list goes on.... I'd still download it obviously
ChrisNJ 08-06-2005, 02:06 PM 2nd,...F1 would win hands down. But putting shumacher in a murc/430/konigseg(sp), etc up against a stock 1k would be fun to watch.

it may be the "baseline" ferrari, but it still is a Ferrari, and they don't make slow shit....a 360 modena would blow a corvette away, i'd bet on it

Rossi's actually a pretty decent car driver as well.
A few years back in Sport Rider they did an article where they tested a stock 02 Gixxer 1000 against a stock 02 Vette Z06. Both machines were driven by Kevin Schwantz. Before someone says why Kevin, apparently he has some experience in 4-wheeled racing as well. In any event the Gixxer beat the Z06 in just about every single category.

Yep - he has been driving Schumacher's F1 a couple of times, invited by Ferrari for advertising. He did it again last week for two days at the Fiorano track - and got within three seconds of Schumacher's lap record... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

thats exactly why in 2007 when his contract is up hes going to be rally racing for Fiat. bet ya didnt know that one did ya? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif

what kind of track were they tested on? I just find it very hard to believe that a corvette would beat a 360 modena in any situation....off the line torque is the only place MAYBE the corvette would be up...but once the 360 got into tripple digit speeds the corvette's toast. i don't know of any american sports cars other than exotics like the saleen S7 or ford GT that could keep up with the majority of european sports cars over 80 mph.....it seems to me american sports cars are good at getting to 100 fairly quick then there's not much left http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif

Hes got another two weeks of testing with Ferrari F1 coming up.
I guess FIat could decide to use him for Rallying, but theres still alot of speculation about him going to F1....

You my friend are an IDIOT. The corvette is a "sports car" it doesn't jsut go fast in a straight line, it has top of the line suspension and the damn thing is LIGHT. The z06 is even lighter. These things have brembo brakes on them, they aren't just some american car http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif So you can shove your europe is elite attitude right up your ass http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Grandevil 08-08-2005, 01:50 AM From car and driver where they tested European sports cars against the corvette. (not even the z06) Sorry I could not find an exact ferrari vs/ vette article but if you want to argue that the Porsche 911 is a clunker...well go ahead.
"The 911 pulled 0.97 g on the skidpad, a tick less than the Vette's 0.98."
"The power-to-weight ratio is 23 percent poorer than the Vette's"
"The 911, therefore, needed a major handling advantage to outrun the Vette at GingerMan. No such trump card arose. Like most recent 911s, this one predominantly understeers, so in GingerMan's long corners, we had to wait seemingly forever to put the power down and accelerate out of the turns. The 911's best lap time of 1:37.95 was 2.3 SECONDS SLOWER than the Vette's. That's an eternity in road racing."
Sorry I couldn't find an article testing the 360 againstr the vette, but guess what, europeans are a lot of flash and big names and YES they do perform but it doesn't mean they outperform everything and a car being American doesn't make it any less of a performer. You might do well to remember that Corvette has a C5R.... and it goes up against ferraris every race.
Here are the specs on the Vette that matter as far as handling:
Wheelbase: 105.7 in
Length/width/height: 174.6/75.6/49.1 in
Curb weight: 3150 lb
Here are the ferraris:
Wheelbase 102.3 in
Length/width/height 176.3/75.7/47.8 in
Curb weight 3250–3300 lb
In a Motortrend 600 ft slalom the corvette (2003) was faster than the ferrari 575m which is a higher model than the 360

Alrighty then.
