This is the first NEW bike I've owned. Took it in yesterday for the the 500 mile service. Service price was $149. I thought that was kind of high. What have you paid?

Does it matter? You paid it already http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif People are going to say "you got ripped off, you should have done it yourself...blah blah blah" But if it's a new bike I say have a certified person do it. That way if something breaks in your warranty period they can't say "well you didn't have your first maintence done right etc etc"

$150 is worth the piece of mind.

service done by a dealer has nothing to do with your warranty..YOU can do the work your self. $150 probably isnt too bad if you got a oil change and shit was really done..

there's nothing wrong with being curious and wanting to know if your dealer is ripping you off. This will let me know what type of dealings I will want to have with them in the future. I dropped the bilke off last night to have it serviced and I'm picking it up today.... so no I haven't paid yet.
So if you had the service done..... I'm curious about what you paid.
Thanks

The price for the 500 mile is usually around the 130-150 range. You didn't get ripped off by any means, but they probably don't do half the stuff they say they do.

I wish they charged me $149.

For the low low price of $259 I got the following on my K5's 1st service

1 - My oil changed
2 - Lube overspray all over my controls
3 - A non-adjusted slipper clutch (even though this is supposed to be routine for this bike @ each service)
4 - My Tankslapper material ripped off my tank and thrown out
5 - Couple of bolts may or may not have been torqued who knows
6 - Got to listen to the manager yell at one of the guys in the back for walking around the service area with a cigarette in one hand and a gas can in the other.

Yeah, don't think I'll be back there again. Bought the service manual off of eBay the next day.

You should have taken the gas can and poured it on the guy while he was smoking and called it even.

Then to top it off my brother takes his bike in for his service plus a state insp. and they only
charged him around $160.... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bs.gif
Do you think that the charge is different for different model bikes?Just wondering .

you say some of the dumbest shit on here, no they can't deny warranty because you serviced yourself. and from the sounds of others experience with these services, do you really truly believe that they are certified to really do it http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

My 500 mile service cost me $100 but I didn't take it to the dealer...because I swore to never buy another product there.

No i never said they WOULD deny you. I'm saying what they CAN say. If your engine blows, and they look at it, and feel that the first service was done, then you're going to have to fight them. Sure you can say to you're blue in the face you did it, but I can also say I'm super rich all I want, it doesn't make it true nor make Suzuki have to honor the warranty. Now if you have paperwork from a "certified" suzuki repair shop, you have some legs to stand on.

so if you have an OEM suzuki oil, OEM suzuki oil filter, and you engine blows....they will not deny your warranty. Now if you have a fram for instence on there, then it can be voided, regardless of who worked on the bike

go do some more research

Where did I say anything about what parts you use? And where did I say anything about this definately being the case? Why don't you actually read what someone says instead of just saying "I hope they gave you k-y jelly with that" Becuase honestly, who uses that for personal lube? Anyone with a clue would know to use Wet http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ott.gif

why dont you read what i said,
NOW IF

i gave an example of a reason they could void it. BUt how many here dont use the zuki filter? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif not many, just look at the posts when oneida has that filter/oil deal, there are hundreds of responses

OK, I'll say it. You should have done it yourself...blah blah blah. I am sure there are alot of good mechanics out there but there is also alot of bozos. Bad things can happen even for a good mechanic. Example: Mechanic starts on your bike at 4:30. Bell rings, he leaves it and goes home. Has too much to drink that night, can't work next day. Someone else takes over. Now lets see where was he? Do you really want someone else f**ken with your baby? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif

Sheeit, a little saliva is all I've ever needed to get it started. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/applause.gif

I've done all my own work on my '03 1K this far. I seem to remember that all the 500-mile service entails is just an oil change and checking some bolts, cables, etc. Most shops probably just do the oil change and call it good. $150 sounds a little high--I doubt the service took two hours of labor (plus oil and filter) to complete.

IIt all depends on how mechanically sound you think you are. If your good with tools I'd say go for it. If you don't know where ur screwdriver iis, better take it to the dealer and get ripped off. The reasosn why its expensive is because of the labor hours. It shouldn't take more than an hour but they will charge you for like 5 hours worth of work.

The people who are mechanically inclined, have the space, tools and experience to do their own service are probably going to say you paid too much or that you should have done it yourself.

Personally, I feel if the shop who did the work has good "karma" and you're happy with the service and treatment then I think $150 is fair. It keeps the economic wheels in motion and also keeps the shop in business for a place you can go to ask questions, get parts and talk with other riders. [Provided that you trust the shop and they have a good reputation]

For me, I'll let the shop do most of the service work. I don't mind paying the labor prices, but then again, I've seen their work first hand and trust them... better than I'd trust myself (I'm not much into the whole engine-taking-apart-and-putting-back-together thing http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)

If you do do your own service, keep a folder/large envelope to store all your receipts and logs. It doesn't hurt to take pictures either. Comes in handy when trying to argue a warranty issue.

I did my first service at the cost of $40 for 4 quarts of Mobil 1 MX4T Fully Synthetic Motorcycle Specific 10W-40 and 1 Suzuki OEM filter as well as time spent doing the oil change and checking all of the proper specs, etc. with the ol' torque wrench. I like working on it myself because in regards to somethings and being anal about doing a perfect job, I know no one will do it better than me. Later,

PS - I hope your cock also got a servicing for that price...http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

By the way, isn't it the 600 mile service not the 500 mile service (or 2 months)?
