He's actually smart! He's making sure his ducks are in a row.
In MO, if I build a bike with parts from a couple different bikes, I have to prove where everything came from. If I can't, they can sieze the ENTIRE motorcycle. Now this is generally for major pieces - chassis, engine, wheels, forks, etc., but some inspectors are more anal retentive than others - and a lot of them know thier parts!

Supposed to be the same way here in GA... but they are kinda lax about it... If he is doing a rebuild he will absolutely need to have that VIN.
Racer313g 08-04-2005, 11:56 PM It's the same here in Ohio and they are anal about it.
mtmra70 08-05-2005, 01:28 AM So if it is a new part you must provide a receipt for the new part then?
Racer313g 08-05-2005, 03:58 AM In Ohio you do.

Yep.
Grandevil 08-05-2005, 04:17 AM I think inspection here is pretty lax, the dealer even had the inspection sticker up under the nose instead of on the forks.

Motorcycles have to get inspected in NC??? WTF... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif
mtmra70 08-05-2005, 05:20 AM I think the thread starter is talking about inspeciting a salvadged bike. 750, are you talking about emmisions?

+1 it's the same in NY you need to prove where the parts came from when rebuilding a salvage bike.
Teknikscian 08-05-2005, 10:19 AM cool. just making sure that its legit. didnt want to just toss out my VIN for no reason.
and yes the guy i am seeling some parts to is rebuilding his stolen, and now returned, bike.
Fiddy_Ryder 08-05-2005, 11:17 AM hmmm i my boy didnt have to do that, neither did others here in CA,, they did not have to produce a vin or receipt for other parts. just that the vin on the frame and motor matched. Folllow up with dmv or chp on that.
juniorace 08-05-2005, 11:27 AM That all sounds legit. Now, if he wanted to borrow your title to go down to Office Max and make a copy for his records...... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/werd.gif
