: Burned Rubber And Nylon Now On My Midpipe...

My longtime buddy who has been waiting to get a streetbike for a while now always sits on mine, starts it up, etc. I know he can ride as we rode dirts together and I do not care when he chills with my bike. I usually let him take it up and down the driveway for shits and giggles. Well today he let his shoe get burned on the midpipe as well as his baggy nylon Adidas pants. Now my midpipe has rubber and nylon burned onto it. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cussing.gif So what is the best way to remove the rubber and nylon without scratching the midpipe? Thanks,

get it hot and use oven cleaner on it.. be careful not to get the stuff on anything else.. follow the directions and it should just wipe off

I clean my SS midpipe with acetone or rubbing alcohol. I'd say yeah, heat it up a little so as to soften whatever is there and try that out. Maybe contact/brake cleaner.

I know the oven cleaner works.. the guys on the Valkyrie board use it on those friggin chrome bazookas they have..

the only other thing that I myself have used to get heal crap off of my mid pipe and off the Valk is Hagerty's polish.. it is a jewelery ultra fine polish / cleaner..

I used an oil / degreaser tar remover stuff, Simple Green, and Easy Off Oven Cleaner and while the rubber came off, no luck on the nylon. Any other ideas? Later,

is your pipe chrome or SS? if it's SS, you can just rub a fine 3M scotch-rite pad on it. rub in the direction of the 'grain', usually around the pipe. not back and forth.
if its chrome; no clue. good luck. maybe browse a (dare i say) harley forum or two.
oh, and kick your friends ass. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/SmackBottom.gif

It is the midpipe on a 2004 GSX-R 600 (I assume it is stainless steel) but I tried a little green / yellow scouring dish pad on the underside and it will scratch the midpipe so I decided against using it. Anyone else?

Im no expert but you may want to try wd40 (beware at your own risk),contact clener is good to but careful with paint i dont know if it would eat it(also with anything test spot it), also when you using the 3m scotch brite pad you need to wet it (like wet sand)water prevents it from scratch, there another pad that the painter use you can use, i cant rember the name, it a gray fiber fine grite, polishing grit, and so forth, last call the tech support for the manufacture of your pipe unless its stock...hope that helps http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/idea.gif
