: pulling right whilst wheelying....
howzer 07-28-2005, 11:11 PM Has anyone noticed that there K5 pulls to the right when you do long wheelies??? i thought it was just new tyres causing it but hen i read an article by simon roots(superbike magazine) on his long term test bike and he said the same!!! i don't for one minute thinkj this is a fault and sometimes it doesn't happen but i just wondered if anyone else has experienced it, i know that it could be road camber and inertia if chain and all that but i just wondered if anyone else thought this was wierd!
closetotheedge 07-28-2005, 11:17 PM Straight as a die here.
JBETANCOURT 07-28-2005, 11:27 PM Mine does the same thing. It pulls right as soon as the tire leaves the ground.
Scott_in_FL 07-28-2005, 11:30 PM Mine pulls right also, FWIW.
slammed1000 07-28-2005, 11:50 PM mine seems worse when i shift from 2nd to 3rd and it goes dirrectly right after that. i notice it in second but i can control it somewhat with my body. if i am on the left side of the crown on a double lane it helps but i have never had this much problem.. i checked wheel alignment with my digital calipers and reset and still same issue. i would really like to know why this is happening. it just dont seem right.....
StuartV 07-29-2005, 01:00 AM Mine seems to go straight just fine on one wheel.
slammed1000, how do you check wheel alignment with calipers?
Fromundacheese 07-29-2005, 01:04 AM That is wierd..could it be the bike is slightly weight biased towards the right side?
moistmaster 07-29-2005, 01:27 AM Maybe you should try "Dressing" to the left................ http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif
howzer 07-29-2005, 02:34 AM Apparently it is caused by the inertia of the chain and sprockets because there is so much drive but as you say i never had this much pull on any of my other bikes! but i can forgive it cause it only happens until you get used to sitting a bit further left and controlling it. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Shalaw 07-29-2005, 02:36 AM Just steer it with your weight, if you can't steer it, your probly not high enough.
Standup Wheelies are way easier to steer, maybe try those.
JBETANCOURT 07-29-2005, 02:46 AM It's not a power thing. I've had bikes with more power that go straight. I wonder why so many of them pull right? I have a friend whose 05 does the same thing.
howzer 07-29-2005, 02:50 AM i think it's maybe inertia not the power, if you set two weels connected (sprockets/chain wheels) you will get an inertia force.
fronic 07-29-2005, 03:05 AM I'm still getting the hang of wheelies so when I pick it up it might go right or left. Once the wheel is up in the air, I can correct it and keep it straight.
Check your rear wheel alignment.
howzer 07-29-2005, 03:10 AM i don't think it's alignment, quite a few people seem to recognise the "force" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
GSXRJJordan 07-29-2005, 03:17 AM all bikes pull - the road and the pressure of your tires make a difference, but if ur doin long wheelies, just stand up and counterbalance
howzer 07-29-2005, 03:20 AM people, i know all you need to do is counter balance but imo the k5 pulls more to the right than most bikes that is the point i was making http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
JBETANCOURT 07-29-2005, 03:22 AM I've been riding for 26 years. Believe me when I say this bike pulls to the right. I,ve tried cocking the tire to the left, right. I've strung the bike. Nothing fixes it.
howzer 07-29-2005, 03:25 AM Thank you JBETANCOURT http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif.....that is what i was trying to say! i've wheelied everything form ktm65's to massey fergusons and as good a bike as the k5 is, it pulls right when wheelying...
fronic 07-29-2005, 04:38 AM I've been riding for 26 years. Believe me when I say this bike pulls to the right. I,ve tried cocking the tire to the left, right. I've strung the bike. Nothing fixes it.
Can it be a difference in technique? I can steer a sit down by just moving my upper body...
I notice no tendency to go right either... if anything, it seems to weer left just a tad.
JBETANCOURT 07-29-2005, 04:42 AM I can wheelie other bikes as far as I want. This bike, as soon as it starts coming up it pulls to the right. I can hang off the left side of the bike and it helps a little, but eventually the bike will go right.
Shady 07-29-2005, 06:17 AM I'm having the same problem
I posted this in stunts and tricks
http://www.gixxer.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1667070&an=0&page=0#1667 070
rraiderr 07-29-2005, 07:51 AM My left nut is bigger than my right nut so it balances my bike out when doing long wheelies.
Max Potential 07-29-2005, 08:05 AM not the camber of the road....?
Maybe your frame is broken http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rotflol.gif
JetSpeedz 07-29-2005, 08:20 AM its normal... physics... motor and inertia... try a gyro same situation ... all physics
fatlip 07-29-2005, 09:04 AM My K3 does this with sit downs. But it tracks straight when I do stand ups.
wheelie 07-29-2005, 09:46 AM LOL, I thought i was the only one with that problem, its not the alignment at all, its the rear tire! Tell me all of your bikes pulling are new? get about 2400 miles on the new rear tire and it will wheelie straight, my 01 GSXR-1000 did it, and my 954 did it, my 04 GSXR-1000 did it slightly but its all good now, just get some miles on it and it will wheelie straight. weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I've been riding for 26 years. Believe me when I say this bike pulls to the right. I,ve tried cocking the tire to the left, right. I've strung the bike. Nothing fixes it.
Try this:
remove the stock exhaust and try to pop a wheelie without the exhaust.

I had the same problem with my K4 and it ended when I put an Akrapovic axhaust. I think that the Gixxers are balanced out, keeping in mind that most people (or at least in race) will replace the stock exhaust.
GReetZ
howzer 07-30-2005, 05:18 AM it's not the new rear tyre as i am now on my second and i've been through a couple of other tyres on previous bikes http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Ibidu1 07-30-2005, 05:57 AM LOL How do they make a road? They slightly slope them down in between the two lanes is the highest point it is for water drainage. Some roads may appear to be flat but there not. Try wheeling on the other side of the (Make sureno cars in remote area) road and youll notice it will steer to the left.
howzer 07-30-2005, 08:28 AM good explination but flawed i'm afraid........all the other bikes i've owned didn't do it to the same extent on the same roads bud http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
AdidasMan 07-30-2005, 11:34 AM no no no. you are all wrong. I contacted Suzuki headquarters and they explained it to me like this; most people are right handed, so they put more of their stuff in their right pockets. i.e. wallet, cell phone, change, etc... so if you put some of your stuff in your left pocket... even it out, it should wheelie straight all day long
http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rotflol.gif
Spectre600 07-30-2005, 12:28 PM Id say +1 with road crowning (steering to the outside of the lane) and motor gyro effect may have some part in it.
Shady 07-31-2005, 07:34 AM You guys are trying to be funny (trying!!!) but this issue is very real. I have tried a few diff. surfaces. Still the same crap. Its starting to taunt me now. I think it is gonna come down to getting used to the machine. I think I will drag my left knee while I wheelie!!!!!!!!
GregoryC 08-03-2005, 08:48 AM I noticed the same thing as soon as I got the bike. It pulls to the right way more then any other bike I've owned. It's not road angle or anything regarding external factors, as ALL other bikes over the last 10 yrs have not done this to such a high degree. So to answer your question, YES it pulls to the right. Why? I have no idea http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I've just got accustomed to hanging off the left side if the bike now. Good Luck and ride safe.
JokerTLR 08-04-2005, 04:21 PM Sounds like I need to get myself on of these bikes... On my Tiller I always go to the left... I think its how I bounce though, definitely not the bike.
fatlip 08-04-2005, 08:21 PM Do you guys ahve the same problem while doing stand ups? This only happens to me with sit downs.
Markopolian 08-05-2005, 12:59 AM my standups have been fine so far... it has pulled a bit to the right a couple times though
luke111 08-26-2005, 08:35 AM My left nut is bigger than my right nut so it balances my bike out when doing long wheelies.
Your lucky. I usually have to strap my hole package to my left legt to make my bike wheelie straight.

yellowgixxer04 08-26-2005, 02:35 PM Come to think about it, my buddy with the k5 always sits far to the left of the bike when he does a sitdown. I always thought it was because he wanted a clear view of the road. I'll ask him if he has the same problem with it going more to the right. This guy's been riding for about 10 years so he should be able to tell me if there is a slight difference.
fatlip 08-27-2005, 09:27 AM My buddy with a K2 said he has the same problem. I got a K3 and it does it to me too.
gimpsta 08-27-2005, 12:30 PM think about it, if it drifted it means something is out of alignment. its the road surface for draining, or its how you sit on your bike.
do more and more of them and you'll get it to stay straight or just all over the place http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
