: Warranty???
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-25-2005, 11:02 PM I went out and bought a brand new gixxer 6 back in March. Three months and 4600 miles later in June, I snapped my chain going down the highway. I took it in to the dealership to see if this would be covered under warranty and they said the chain is not under warranty. I believe the chain is not under warranty, but I also believe that was not the main cause. They say I didnt take care of her and blah blah blah, but I took very good care of her. Nothing but the best. I dont even believe they are covering everything that is wrong. I think they are trying to screw me to get other things fixed that arent even the root of the problem. Am I getting bent over by the dealership?? If so what can I do to get this resolved. I was told to contact suzuki warranty and complain and tell them I would report them to BBB, but I dont want to get into a big hassle. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need some serious guidance to get my baby back to new again. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif
andtal 07-25-2005, 11:21 PM Well, you dont pay for warranty work, Suzuki do, so i doubt that they would try and do work that wasnt needed.
Its possible they may be trying to get away without doing ALL the ncessary work, but the only way to find out is to get a second opinion. Is there a dealership in reasonable distance?
Jimmy 2 Times 07-26-2005, 12:16 AM fucking stealerships http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/piss.gif
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-26-2005, 07:42 PM There are a few dealers around, but getting it up there is the problem. Then I dont want to have to pay another dealer for the same advice if thats the case. Is there a good way to go about fighting with the warranty people?
Well, chain won't break that fast unless it has been either VERY badly maintained or adjusted wrong. And normal wear items like chains, brake pads, tires, etc. are never under warranty - so I can fully understand the dealer. Suzuki won't cover anything that's not under warranty so it would be money right out of their pockets. You just have to suck it up and pay for a new chain...
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-26-2005, 08:15 PM Its not just the chain. $3500 in total damage. I cracked the case for my front sprocket, took out chunks of my subframe and swingarm, I am leaking antifreeze, I think my transmission is gone. There is so much wrong with it right now....I wouldnt mind dropping $100 on a chain, but when a grand total like the above shows up and I just got the bike and babied it I feel a little more than screwed without lube!!!!
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-26-2005, 08:16 PM Oh and my undertail is shot too, but I woudl just get something like War Eagle racing fairings or replicas

Well, Suzuki won't take responsibility for that. As far as they are concerned, it's your own fault because of either lack of maintenence or incorrect adjustment of the chain. So that's on your own bill... Just curious, how often did you adjust the chain and how?
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-27-2005, 05:59 PM Cleaned and lubed the chain every 600 miles, so about every two weeks for me. What else beside what the dealership is telling me could be the possible cause for a chain to snap? What if the tranny locked up or something else happened?
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-27-2005, 06:13 PM also, does anyone have a 1800 number for suzuki? The one in the manual gave me a 1800 talk dirty number??????

Apart from lack of maintenance, too tight chains and misalligned wheels are common causes of accelerated chain wear...
Grandevil 07-28-2005, 10:28 AM ^and people look at me weird when I say I don't do my own work on my bike/car http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif I don't sh*t about wheel alignmet.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 07-28-2005, 04:30 PM Well I had proper tension in the chain, but they did say the rear sprocket was crooked. I think that could have been from when the chain snapped. I dont know, sometimes I wonder if its even worth going to bat against the warranty people. They would probably screw me anyways. Guess I should just fix it myself. I wouldnt mind taking it in to have fixed but at $60 an hour for labor alone.....forget it.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-01-2005, 09:15 AM Updated information from the dealership. Instead of the original qoute of $3500 I went in today to get the number for customer service. I asked them what it would cost, to just get my bike running and have no problems besides cosmetics. He got on his computer and started adding things up and came back with a quote of a few hundred dollars shy of $6000!!!! The first qoute included all the parts and labor......What the hell???? I couldnt believe it. I called customer service and they said that I could get a second opinion, "but any other dealership will tell me the same thing." Does anybody have ideas for an active duty military member to come up with $6000. Maybe I should start a website that says send me a dollar to fix my bike.
A seriously pissed suzuki owner http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cussing.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bash.gif
JetSpeedz 08-01-2005, 09:19 AM i hate to say it but in this situation unless your really good with your dealer your screwed simply b/c the chain is not under warranty and anything as a result of your chain problem is not going to be covered...
one reason i dont care about warranties unless they are free and i do all my own work....
best bet it to shop around on ebay and the classifieds... good luck
iflyjets86 08-01-2005, 10:25 AM wow...thats a lot of damage. theres a good chance u wont get any money from suzuki, but i would at least try to get them to cover it. if not, then i would deffiantly let the insurance in on this one.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-01-2005, 11:32 AM Well this warranty was free, but I should have figured it wasnt as good as it sounds. I do all my own work too. I like to know that its done right. The problem with insurance is I didnt have full coverage, just because it would have run me 500 a month. I have liability plus comprehensive. I should check to see what the comprehensive part will cover, but I dont the insurance people will cover it too. Plus at 6 grand it would total out my bike, I dont want my rates to go any higher than they allready are. I guess Ebay and classifieds are gonna be my best friends.
spongebob 08-01-2005, 12:38 PM you might wana send that guy....chip a pm,(chip@ronayres.com) he's just a parts guy, but maybe he has pictures of the service writter with some farm animals and will give up the straight shit.... its a site sponsor..might get lucky.
I feel for you bro, I just got my bike out of the shop. After a month of riding on my 03 600 the chain snapped, didn't do anymore damage. The dealership came and picked the bike up and took it to the shop. The chain also put a big gouge in the tire so I had to buy new tires as well. The chain wasn't covered eventhough they said it was a new chain when I bought the bike and it had only been a month. After all of the labor and new chain and tires the total came to roughly $700. As I start to ride back home from the shop I can't get over 25MPH. I take the bike back and now the clutch is shot to shit, it was fine when the chain snapped and they said the clutch wouldn't fuck up if the chain popped, the clutch wasn't covered under my warranty. So I feel your pain

what??? Are you talking black mail? I like the idea! "Im gonna burn this mother down" kinda thing. It never hurts to ask right?

We my friend are getting F-ed!!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/flipa.gif I wonder if the clutch going would cause the chain to snap though? Thats bs if your bike came back with the clutch not working! How much is that gonna run you? I wonder if I could take this to small claims with a good attorney (my uncle) and pull the "I was in Iraq" card with the Judge?
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-03-2005, 08:14 PM I was looking online at ronayers.com, flatoutmotorcycles.com, and mrcycles.com and it seems that if I buy everything they have on my print out I would save about $1500 in parts alone. If I did the work myself I would save another thousand dollars or so in labor. Its funny to see a bolt on a website for under a dollar when suzuki wants to charge $8-13 for some. If these companies online are able to sell so cheap, it makes me wonder what kinda mark up there is on these parts coming straight from a dealer. What a rip off. They forgot about the little guys who keep their business afloat because we love to ride their motorcycles. Also, I am not to familiar with motors and such, but what does a crankcase do? Would that be affected enough to need a whole new CC set by my chain snapping?
Surely, a good visual of the chains after snapped condition would show if it was not lubed correctly ? Maybe a good check over the chain might show a defect or similar where suzuki may HAVE to cover these things ? - If you can prove that you A. Know how to lobe and adjust a chain properly,b. Align wheels properly and C that the chain was basically in brand ne wcondition - then you may just have a case against faulty workmanship ?? Try a legal beagle that delves in that area - one of those, no win - no fee - if they are ok to take your case - you've pretty much got a good chance, cause they don;t like wasting time...
Cheers Si.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-04-2005, 03:11 PM Cant prove the chain, dont know where it is....but I followed everything else according to the owners manual. Legal Beagle is probably what I will have to do. Thanks for the advice SI
GSXR1000K3 08-04-2005, 09:35 PM Haven't chains got their own warranty? I believe so. Find out who made the chain and if it had a manufacturing fault. You could sue the chain maker and let them pay for the damages if you could prove it was their fault.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-05-2005, 02:14 PM Does anyone know who makes the chains for the new gixxer?
brooks2005 08-06-2005, 02:21 PM just report the damgae to your insurance company if you have full coverage. insurance doesn't cover the chain. but full coverage takes care of the bodywork. just as if someone keyed your car or your car caught fire. that would altleast eliminate some of your out of pocket cost.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-09-2005, 02:07 PM Well being that I am young and dont have a clean record, my rate would go SKY HIGH! Looking for other alternatives to this mess.
JB05GIXXXERSIXXXER 08-22-2005, 06:35 PM Heres an update on the long time of running around in circles. I picked up my bike from the stealership the past Sat. I am just going to look for parts and do it myself. I was about to get a "you dont pay if you win" lawyer, but I figure Suzuki has probably some of the best lawyers and the above lawyers wouldnt stand a chance. Thats even if they would accept my case. Right now I need a clutch push rod, water pump, they say I need a new crank case, but Im not to sure if I need a new one or if there is some sort of cover for it that I can get. I will post pics of the damage sometime this week. Im just glad I have my baby back, and now its going to suck seeing her broken all the time. I think I am going to start a website so rich and generous people can donate money to me and I can show them what I have bought and stuff.
Work in Progess
