I have the atomic jacket and it has enough protection that I feel safe using it during average commuting.

It does'nt look it but it's pretty burly with lots of padding/protection that you'd think Arlan Ness now makes a similar one too. I have the 2002 one so it MAY be different

I used that jacket on hot days last season. All my buddiez got one too. It holds up extremely well on the falls I've seen. I think there was a crash test done on it at some point. The material is supposedly anti-rip. The only thing I worry about is the padding moving around. Breathes great though!

Contact Bman29. He went down hard with one. He might still have the jackets, so that he can show you how it held up.

I love mine.

It's better than some jackets but hard armor in the shoulder and elbows for me...

On www.motorcyclegearreview.com (http://www.motorcyclegearreview.com) some guy said that it is possible to have kevlar ($42 more) available for the Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket. Has anyone of you heard about that? I didn't see anything on the Joe Rocket website...

I got a size Large Phoenix jacket in Grey, worn like 3 times, too big for me. (The sizes run kinda big) I'll let it go cheap. Email me.

I went and checked out the phoenix jacket at lunch and it's pretty cool. I however REALLY liked the reactor jacket. It's got leather along hte sleeves and shoulders and I don't think it would add too much to the heat factor since the leather has holes in it.

Question about the reactor jacket:
I just bought one and if fits ok but I am wondering should it fit a little snug to keep the pads from moving around? Any help?

Mine fits pretty snug. I think i'm going to get a pair of pants as well so i can zip the jacket down. it tends to ride up a little bit is the only problem.

Peep this - http://www.joerocket.com/reactor_jacket.htm (http://Reactor)
I just ordered one from Fast Lane in VA. It is just like the Pheonix but adds leather on the tops. Nice fit even for me (6'1" - 155lbs).

I just got my Phoenix jacket today. Bought it used from a member on the board. What I didn't realize before I bought it was that it is made out of mesh. Therefore it breathes like you are just wearing whatever is underneath. Went out on my mom's bike for about an hour and I believe I noticed a little sweat on my back from possible the back armor. It has padding in all the right places, at least for me. Whether or not the material holds up to the pavement I hope I will never know. It definetely is much better protection while still holding the ventilation qualities of simlply a tee-shirt though.
