: Can't Make up my mind on leathers
1Liter 02-01-2002, 12:05 AM I've narrowed it down to three:
-SPIDI HOOK
-Teknic Speedstar
-Joe Rocket Speedmaster
all in the Black/Gunmetal/silver sceme
They are all around the same cost, The SPidi looks the best to me, others seem to have more features. Post which of the three you would get and why. Thanks for the help.
carvnthetwisties 02-01-2002, 12:14 AM I'd get the spidi hook, because that's what I'll be buying in the next few months. I've heard bad things about joe rocket, and I'm sure others have heard bad things about spidi. I own several spidi products and I'm 100% completely satisfied. I have never been down in my spidi gear, I'll say that, so I can't attest to how they'll hold up, but like I said, I've been more than satisfied so far. The best price I could find for the spidi hook was at parts411.com and kneedraggers.com, if you can find any cheaper, let me know!
torquemaniac 02-01-2002, 12:22 AM Spidi, Teknic, Joe Rocket - in that order (just as you listed them - listen to your subconscious!).
Hammer 4 02-01-2002, 02:33 AM I vote for the Spidi, then the JR..then the Tecnik..
Papa_Cherry 02-01-2002, 11:26 AM As soon as I saw the spidi suit in the shop and got my spidi gloves in the mail, I knew then my next 1 pc suit would be a spidi, hands down.
There shit is tight.
Spooner 02-02-2002, 03:31 PM I will be different and say go for the Joe Rocket. Obviously that is what I went with images/icons/grin.gif . I have the '02 speedmaster suit and gloves and really love them. One nice thing about the JR suit is that it is 1.7mm, which is thicker than the spidi for sure, but I don't know much about the other suit. Also, it is very ventilated which was a big priority of mine cause it gets very muggy here. One of my good friends has the '02 hook suit, and it maybe has 1/3rd the ventilation mine does... I have worn mine at the track in quite warm weather and can defenitely say that the perforation works very well. My roomate and I also wear JR jackets for day to day wear, and he crashed in his and it held up superbly, and it was a textile coat. I have never heard anything bad about any of the suits mentioned as they are all good quality brands. Just my 2 cents...

1Liter 02-03-2002, 04:26 PM Thanks to all for the help! They are all good, I think the ventilation on the JR is a very important consideration.
curvecrazy 02-04-2002, 03:15 PM I just bought a Dainese K suit fully perforated and after having worn nonvented suits for years I haveta say I can't believe the ventilation you get in this suit. All the suits mentioned will serve you well if you can get them to fit your particular body off the shelf. Otherwise, go custom with something like a vanson or tiger angel or z custom and you will be well pleased.
Hayai 02-05-2002, 02:09 AM The JR Speedmaster gets my vote too. Other than the ventilation, the quality seems pretty good and it comes with back, shoulder, and elbow/forearm armor.

tatervine7 02-05-2002, 08:38 PM I cant complain about the Teknic gear....I just got the 2002 Violator 1 Pc and Violator pro nonstudded gloves to go with it.......the suit has excellent venting and plenty of extra padding and support...one thing to consider is that the Teknic Violator/Speedstar comes with the new Air Hump design on the back for neck support/vent/helmet comfort. The gloves..no complaint at all...love em...very flexible and protective...not too mention bad ass...I dont have any other input on the other suits..I do like the Spidi...but I couldnt turn down getting the 2002 Teknic at dealer cost.......Yeah Baaaaby..Very Satisfied

tlracer 02-05-2002, 08:57 PM I have the Spidi Fighter in a 1 pc. I have the Silver Black set-up, to match up with my silver/blk/red 2001 750. Beyond looks, this is the best suit I have ever had, hands down. Fits like a glove. Im 5'10"(Without shoes), weigh 190+ (But its evenly displaced), and have a 33 waist. This suit fits perfectly, and allows correct movement. I was disappointed with the liner. The seem split in the crotch area (We ALL know why....Gixxer owners NEED a set like that to ride our bikes images/icons/smile.gif )...Anyway..sewwed up easy and happy again. I would look at the fighter instead of the hook. More for less. Besides, I think the Hook is discontinued.. Laterz

I had the seem split in the crotch on my underleathers. images/icons/confused.gif I'll have to get em fixed.
HUGE BALLS OF STEEL!!!!
1Liter 02-21-2002, 12:38 AM So it's 4 votes for spidi, 2 for JR and 1 for teknic. Thanks for the great input, I just can't find any local dealers that have Spidi suits in stock to try on. I like the look of the Spidi the best, But really want the ventilation and extra features of the JR. Think I'm going to end up with the JR, best features for the money. Just gotta find a dealer in the NY area, so I can try the stuff on, ANy help?

Hey Spooner, Do you have any pics of your suit? You have the black/grey one right? I'd like to see what the back looks like. And how are the JR Speedmaster gloves?

Yeah I will take some pics real quick. I have the speedmaster gloves from '01 and '02 and I really love them. Go for the regular speedmaster, not the titaniums though. I went with the ti ones cause they matched my suit better, but after looking at the pics after I got em I saw that you lose some of the little vents on the ti ones...grrr.. Oh well, they are still very good gloves and VERY comfy. Hold on a minute and I will get some pics of the suit for you man.

Thanks man!! images/icons/wink.gif I am going to need some new knee pucks soon though so that kinda sucks images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif But I really do love the suit, no regrets at all, unlike some of my riding buddies...
-Spooner
1Liter 02-23-2002, 01:25 AM Spooner, Thanks for the great pics, those knee pucks are gettin some action! That's the way to be man. Get the sparkin ones when you replace them, real sweet lookin. Yeah, I really like that suit. I'm just torn between The JR suit, And the Spidi HOOK 2pc, The only reason I'm thinking about the Spidi is because it's a nice looking 2pc. The JR dosen't have matching pants. Which brings up another question, Do you ride with the suit all of the time on the street or just at the track? I know a 2pc is not as safe, but sometimes I would just want the jacket for the street. As for the JR, can you get me a deal on it? If so, what kinda price? I'd be buyin SIDI VErt2 boots and JR gloves too. Thanks for the help.

No problem man. When I go out to ride with my friends, and not just going to work or school or whatever I wear my suit. I hate going riding and knowing I could go faster than I am in the corners but feel limited cause I am wearing jeans. Really, 95% of the wear on those sliders are from the street images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif I am going to get some sparky sliders for night time hoolganism, but will probably get some intuitives for every day use and track use. I have a cheap JR Meteor 3.0 jacket I wear for street only use, and I like it becuause it is textile so it is MUCH cooler to wear when it is super hot out. I would recomend getting something similar, like the Phoenix jacket for when you are just tooling around town. I can get you a deal on the suit, not sure what price, but email my buddy Travis at Golden Valley Suzuki. His personal email is tjb97@hotmail.com I am not sure on the availability of the Sidi boots right now, as I was wanting to go with the Race Verts a few months ago but it was going to take forever. It should be better now though images/icons/wink.gif Just email him and tell him you know Nick from KC and he will give you the hook up images/icons/wink.gif I also might be talking to him tomorrow so I will mention it to him as well.

Hayai 02-23-2002, 02:53 AM Awesome suit, man. I have the '01 Speedmaster and I love it...but I think the '02 design looks cooler. images/icons/smile.gif
rodman 02-23-2002, 08:17 PM I would go with the Spidi. The new 2002 "Norick" suit is fully perforated. The Spidi also include shin protection that the Joe Rocked and I'm pretty sure the Tecknic don't have. I think the Spidi is comparable to the Dainese at much less cost. kneedraggers.com are your best bet.
james 02-26-2002, 05:54 AM I know that you didnt mention these....but I have a set of Frank Thomas leathers which I got for half off because they were last years model. I wanted a spidi also, but for half the price, DAM....you should at least check them out on their site to see if you are interested....they look pretty 'normal' too....and CE protection too. YEA! images/icons/grin.gif
RADRB8 02-28-2002, 07:05 PM I ordered a Teknic Violator 1 pc for $639.00 from pman129 !!! 2k2 model in Blk/Sil/Whi...
He also has the hook for $759.00.

1Liter 03-06-2002, 11:52 PM Spooner,, What kinda boots are you using? and how do you like the JR Gloves? Also are the white-looking stripes on the suit reflective?

Anyways, I use the Alpinestar GP-Tech boots. I always wore a-star boots when I rode dirt, so I made sure to check them out. When I started looking at the specs of the boots instead of who has the coolest colors I saw that they were the best choice. I really like the Sidi Race Vert's but after my buddy crashed at the track with his and seeing all the cool looking plastic crap broken really helped solidify my choice.
I love the Speedmaster gloves. I think they are every bit as nice as the standard of the industry (a-star GP Plus) but less expensive and actually has ventilation. Same as the speedmaster suit-I want a suit that I can wear on hot ass track days and weekend rides and not sweat my nuts off images/icons/wink.gif My roomate has the alpinestar gloves, and they are nice, but DEF. no nicer than my speedmasters.
And on the suit the white isn't reflective, but the chrome looking striping on the arms and stuff is. Also the logos on each shoulder are quite large and reflective as well. Let me know if you have any more questions.

gsxr750 03-08-2002, 01:29 PM I had to go with Teknic, I'm 6'3", 235lbs-it is the only one that really fit me good.

1Liter 03-10-2002, 01:14 PM Thanks spooner again for all the info, yeah I'm looking to get the SM-X boots.. Thanks
gixxer19 03-12-2002, 11:57 PM Get the spidi. It's a far better, and less common suit.

1Liter 03-15-2002, 04:22 PM Well, after all this research, The JR dosen't make my size (50 US), the Spidi can't be found anywhere in the USA, so it looks like I have to go with Teknic, their the only one's who make a suit that fits me. So I'm tossin it around on the speedstar or the violator.
Spooner 03-15-2002, 06:30 PM Damn dude, that really sucks. Did you look on their size chart and you were just off the scale or what? All the companies have different scales to go by so you might check that out if you haven't already.
Another suit I really like is the Alpinestar TLD. My roomate has one coming because like you said, Spidi is pretty much unavailable for a while. Check em out.

1Liter 03-17-2002, 02:10 AM Yeah, I tried a 48, it went on all the way but I couldn't move at all. So these are the two suits that I can get which are availible.
Teknic Violator 2pc. http://www.teknicgear.com/media/collections/superbike/2pc_grey.jpg
Or the AGV Talon 2 Pc.
http://www.agvsportsgroup.com/2002/2pc/talon/ng.jpg
Let me know what you guys think.. I'll check out that a-star suit.
1Liter 03-17-2002, 02:16 AM Spooner, yeah that tld suit is real nice, It should be for allmost $1200... But it only comes in blue or red.. I'm tring to match my black & silver 1K.
