Ok I've been riding since FEB05 (05GSXR600) and Im still having problems with my hands going numb. (I have a set of ICON TIMAX gloves on order) Also my feet get bad vibe on pegs. OH and the fat thing I'm 5'10" 150 so im not the biggest guy and when I tuck down behind windshield I rest my chest on the tank. Sometimes when I get off the bike it feels like I've gone rounds W/ Roy Jones........Any help for the noob?? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif

well.. lets see .. im 5'7" 140lbs. Gloves are a MUST, and aftermarket grips are great. Ever since i got the Harris grips my wrists NEVER hurt.. i can ride for hours on end. Also, try squeezing the tank with yer legs from time to time to take the load off yer wrists. I ride with boots (nothing fancy, just steel toes from Walmart) and keep the balls of my feet on the pegs... dont rest the arch of your foot on it. When im in a tuck, i just rest my weight on the tank, i ALWAYS ride with a jacket, textile or leather and neither jacket hurts my chest when i lean on the tank. I also noticed ever since i took the factory pipe off the bike has a TON less vibration in it.
Hope it helps!

You just need more saddle time, you dont need grips or anything just give it time your body will get use to it and you wont feel it.

also those timaxs are very restrictive when you first get them, i never could get used to them, but ive had customers who spritz them with a lil water and wear them here and there for a couple of days mving the jonts around before they ride in them, i made a highway trip in a brand new pair the begingin of last year when they came out, and my pinky and ring fingers went numb after a bit... and i don't ride with any kind of tight grip, very loose and relaxed

for real, no need to white-knuckle it around town, with gloves, it doesnt take much pressure to effectivly use the controls. and hold yourself up by squeezing the tank with your knees and with your back, the more your hands and wrists have to support, the tighter youll squeeze, and the more you will hurt, every once and while, make a concious effort to do these things, eventually, you wont have to think about it at all

Lighten your grip. Grip the tank with your knees more.

When you get into open areas (learn to take both hands off the grips if you cannot already) and stretch your forearms by pressing your fingers flat against your opposite palm and pushing your fingers back to stretch the muscles in your forearm and get blood flowing into them again.

I have to agree with the guys here.. Treat the handlebars like a small bird. I you grip them to hard, youll kill the bird. If you dont have a gentle, controlled grip tho, the bird will fly away.

If I grab the bars real tight, you can feel evrything the engine is doing. Grip the tank with your legs, and support your body with your back and stomache mostly. This will make you real sore for a while, but its the only way to really control a bike.

If the bike shakes when accelerating or over bumps, it could be (and 95%) your gripping too hard! If you let the front end wobble like it needs to, you can rip over any pavement. Holding on tighter just makes the wobbles worse and makes u tired.

GET GLOVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can lose a surprising amount of blood through your hands

howya goin,
Ever ride a horse?
Yep you hang on with your knees and legs.
think BON JOVI (on a steel hose i ride)
Upper body loose, don' try to hang onto the bike with your arms.
tHead turned where you want th bike to go.
Higher speed drop your shoulder into the turn.
Feels like bliss when you get it right.

You have been ridding since feb. you should have a pretty good feel for the bike. tighten up you legs on the tank to take pressure off your wrists. Also try ridding with only one hand. New gloves should also help you out. Try putting your crotch right up against the tank, and sit more upright. That always helps me out. It hurts like hell for alittle bit but after a couple minutes your wrists should feel alittle better. Good luck, and ride safe.

I get some numb hands but only after I've ridden for a long time without gloves. Like they said, relax, you should not have all your weight on your wrists, you should be using your stomach and back muscles to support you.

+1 on the gloves. I could not stand them. I tried the water trick and so on. I went back to rockets.

I get numb forearms from time to time as well -- and I never hang on tight. I just put some stomp pads on my K5 (they go on the sides of your tank) and it helped a ton... takes far less effort to squeeze the knees and hold yourself up.

I've just started riding the past february as well and i always complained that my hands/wrists would start hurting and stuff. my friends suggested getting gloves so i caved in and spent the $25 on a pair of icon ones. All i can say is they were right, the were worth every dime. my hands or wrists never hurt at all anymore. that's all the more advice i can give ya.

Feels good sometimes. Not everyone is canyon carving and turning twisties 24 hours a day http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif I left them off for a highway ride a couple times...which shouldn't matter to you anyways.

I've crashed more times just commuting at sub-legal limit speeds in the city than I have in the twisties... And looking at the amount of rash my gear got from it, I'm fucking glad I wore it. You ever really crashed Devil?

Thank you - just trying to share experiences because I know what crashing is like - and that it can happen anutime you're on a bike... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wait.gif

From some of your other post's, I though you were more Responsible than that.....guess I was WRONG... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/disappointed.gif

Oh, and when you do fall down...don't come cryin about how Rashed up you got cuzz you wern't wearin your gear...

colOn you dizzy fook. your riding has nothing to do with your forearms going numb. it's your fat soapy arse. people have to use caution riding behind you 'cause you make the tar. slippy from your soapy cheeks draging when you're only 10 degrees over. i'm surprised you can tell the difference between your forearms and your belly with all that soap. go wash up now.

cheers

whatever the fuk that means!....Anyway...gloves a MUST and just like everyone else said..relax the grip and give it some time...the worst thing you can do is ride for a few days, get comortable and think your Matt Mladin or Joey Dunlop....Just ride within your limits...it will get more comfortable.....However...gloves...gloves...gloves !!!!!! Just my opinion. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
