Man that really blows!
I had the pleasure of talking to "Checkers" at the Mid Ohio race last year and he really seemed like a fun loving guy who just wanted to be the best at what he did, but not be an ass to the public. He was wiiling to talk to anyone, anytime. I especially liked the fact that we are both of the same Czech heritage, but unfortunatley I aint near as fast as he is. My prayers go out to you man....."Get well soon!" http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

the sad thing is the Pricks at AMA ProRacing waited until after Vincents fall to install the airfence/soft barrier over the armco.

I talked to his team this weekend and they seemed to be in good spirits, considering. Sounds like it's just a wait and see kind of thing right now, since his spinal cord is intact.

MODS...... Would it be possible say everyone that is a monthly supporter instead of our donation going to Gixxer.com if someone that controls the money for this make a donation based on those numbers. Granted I don't know how the bussiness aspect of GDC works, but one months worth of donations from everyone seems like it wouldn't affect the site that much??!!??

MA motorcycle road racer Vincent Haskovec, seriously injured in a crash at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California May 14, has checked himself out of Santa Clara Medical Center in San Jose and has returned to his home in Lake Elsinore. Haskovec, who suffered lower body paralysis in the crash, is preparing to begin therapy at Project Walk in Carlsbad, California next week.

"I left the hospital in San Jose three weeks early, because I want to push myself with different ideas for physical therapy," said Haskovec. "They told me I was crazy to leave early, but I want to get working as fast as I can at getting out of this wheelchair. I have to do it."

Take the time and send an email........

Road racer Vincent Haskovec has checked out of Long Beach Memorial Hospital and returned to his home in Lake Elsinore, California. Haskovec was hospitalized October 7 due to an infection setting in around hardware installed to stabilize his spine following a crash during an AMA Formula Xtreme race at Infineon Raceway May 14. The
hardware and infected bone and tissue were removed during surgery October 11, and bone grafts installed. In the place of the hardware, Haskovec has been fitted with an external brace. He is receiving antibiotics intravenously.

"I'm happy to be out of the hospital and home, but I miss my team, I miss the people at the racetrack and I miss racing so much," said Vincent. "I really look forward to getting email at getwellvincent@gmail.com and I appreciate everybody's support. I will
be back at the track when I can. Because they had to take out the hardware in my back I have to wear an external brace and I can't really move right now. It's going to be at least five months before I can out of the brace and start rehab again. After that I want to get back out to the track to see everybody."

Fastrack Riders Announces Silent Auction to benefit Vincent Haskovec

Fastrack Riders will stage a Silent Auction to benefit Vincent Haskovec at their California Speedway AMA Track Day event this coming November, 26th & 27th. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Vincent to assist him with his recovery.

Almost every road racer on the West Coast knows of Vincent's plight when he suffered serious spine injuries in a crash at Infineon Raceway. Recently Vincent had to re-enter the hospital for additional surgery which was a set major setback of his recovery process. "Motorcyclist have always been a benevolent group and help to support fallen riders" states Larry Pointer V.P. of Operations for Fastrack Riders"
and to that end Fastrack Riders is doing what lot's of other organizations in our sport have done to assist in some small way towards Vincent's recovery."

Chris Ulrich from Road Racing World will be providing rides on a specialty built two seat AMA Superbike. The minimum donation is $25.00 and the rider will receive a warm up lap and two hot laps around the California Speedway AMA Track.

Items available in the Silent Auction are:

Shoei helmet

Two autographed lithos provided by Yamaha valued at $1,000 each

One set of Michelin Pilot Power Tires provided by Dale Keifer from The Racers Edge.

PowerSports Photography is providing a 2' X 3' signed Gold Model picture.

Race Tech is providing four sets of springs and two gold valve (front & rear) kits for the auction.

Spectators are welcomed and can participate in the Silent Auction or just make a cash donation.

Checker and the people close to him have an awful lot to deal with and I send them my thoughts and prayers, especialy for perseverence. Nobody will understand the heartache and pain and everything else that they will go through (without experiencing it firsthand).
Hey guys just be smart out there. and dont wear a backpack with anything hard inside while riding.
To Vincent and family I send strength.

So I got to meet Vince this weekend... I even got to drive him around MMP a few times! WOW, what a great guy!! Super nice, and he still loves a quick lap around a racetrack. You can learn a thing or two about the human spirit from that man as well. That experience just brightened up my whole month, I hope he had as much fun!
