I had a buddy of mine bought a R6. He was having lots of handeling and performance problems. I took his bike out for a spin. The bike ran great, but his throttle was poorly adjusted. It had a lot of slop in it. About 1/8 of a turn of slop. I never knew when the power was gonna kick in. It was a little unnerving. He thought it was normal.

It is easy to adjust your throttle. No need to take it to the shop and have them charge you $30, unless you don't know what you are doing.

This is my proceedure for properly adjusting a throttle (I'm sure there are other methods). I took the excess slack out of the cable that pulls the carbs open (this is the cable on the front side of the hand control). I started the bike, and adjusted the cable some more until the revs started to come up (100-200 RPM). Then I backed the adjuster off 1/2 turn (or until the revs drop back down). I turned the bars both directions to make sure the revs didn't dramaticaly increase. If they do, loosen the adjuster little. Then I tightened up the cable that pulls the carbs shut (In case of an emergency). this cable typicaly isn't used unless something jams. I adjusted it until I could feel friction in the action of the throttle, and backed the adjuster off 1 turN (or until the friction goes away).

My buddies problems went away. He began to have a little more confidence in his bike and his riding skills.

I have adjusted several newbies throttles. All have had positive results. BTW, this is the first adjustment I make whenever I get a new bike. I hate sloppy controls. images/icons/cool.gif

good tip......it's the first thing i do, too.

only, in my case, it still didn't do much for the off-on throttle abruptness. richening the bottom a bit with a pc2 helped tremendously.
