I had always thought it was J sound jixxer. you say "jee ESS EX are" when you pronounce the letters, so if you said "gi x er" the fist sound wouldn't match up. Thats my theory anwyay

I think "gixxer" comes from being lazy, and if you pronounce the letters, "G","S","X","R" fast enough in sequence it eventaully just flows into "gixxer"

I can't tell you how annoying it is to hear gix-er like gi from gift, and er like sure.

like evil e said, jix-sir or jixxir is also appropriate and close enough.

We have several weekly meetings with local sportbike riders, and a handful repeatedly ask me how my gixxer is doing, pronouned wrong. Highly annoying.

Based on many sources I have ascertained the following historical information about the Hayabusa. The name as you may have not heard comes from the Japanese Peregrine falcon. It is one of the few animals which can travel at about 300km per hour (in a dive). The designer apparently came up with the name whilst walking along the beach and seeing this bird. The colour scheme of gold/bronze and silver are similar to those of the falcon its self. This falcon often hunts Blackbirds.

Having done further research, the 'Japanese Very Fast Train' which travels at about the same speeds is also called the Hayabusa. I think this was this pre-dates the Suzuki use of the Hayabusa term.

*I have recently been informed that the term Hayabusa was also used to name a WWII Japanese aircraft. Designated the KI-43 it was built by the Nakajima conglomerate and was classed a fighter. This was apparently the first use of bird names for aircraft.

The Hayabusa was first rumoured to exist during 1998. It was finally launched in Spain on the Catalunya circuit in April 1999. It joins the lists of top speed limit breaking bikes over the years. In fact it is the first production motorcycle to break the 300kph barrier ! The namer of the bike is reported to be Suzuki Product Planning group - Akihiko Muramatsu.

When I was in Britain I heard a few people call them gixxers ("gi" like from "gift") it was really weird. At first I thought they had a lisp or something ... but these dudes were in the know in terms of racing so I figured that was how gixxer was pronounced on that side of the pond... after all, who am I to question them .. they are *English*.

since then his account probably went inactive, then got deleted, then got pruned out of the history database to save data. When that happens, all of the posts they made go away also. In order to save this thread, it got moved into a different account named DONOTDELETE so that the admins would know not to delete the account during database prunes.

Should I jo jet a jasket from the shop for my Jixxer? 'Gihkser' seems more appropriate than 'jikser', but I do see how 'jikser' is right too. General store, gentry, gentle... ginger -- lots of words with the J sound. When talking to someone I haven't talked to about GSXRs, I stick with the G-S-X-R pronunciation, can't go wrong there.

this just in. i called my friend ron burgandy. he then informed me that while the way to say it is debatable, there a silent Y at the beginning, just like in the word yogging..appearently its where you run for an extended period of time...hope this helps.
