Me and my roomie were talking about racing....he seems to think that in superbike races when racers take corners they are in a controled slide...ive never heard of such a thing in sport bike racing.....anyone got an answer?

It is called "backing it in" and most of the top guys slide around with relative ease and control. It turns the bike quicker by pointing it in the direction of the turn exit.

Look for footage of Rossi doing it on the RC211V and you will see sliding for days.

If my rear was sliding on the track, I did something by accident. However, If it looked good and controlled, I might change my story. It does look nice and takes some mad skills to do that with confidence and whenever you feel like it. Yesterday I did a track day and my back slid into a heavy braking right and my buddy behind me said it looked good. He doesn't know that I didn't rev-match or blip the throttle correctly when down shifting so the rear locked up for a second.

keep in mind he did say top guys.

ben bostrom in ama is a good example.

and yes its done with the clutch not the rear brake

as a racer starting bro dont even let this be a part of your focus you have way to many thinks to learn first.

+1 Wiz.
Sliding into the turn is good for the seasoned racers but it is a high side waiting to happen for novices. I know I about tossed it last summer in front of my wife and mother in law trying to catch PB. lol

oh ya, slidding is actually what im having to slowly learn to control and be ready for. Backing it in the last thing on my mind at this point. But when riding hard on a track, a little slip out all of a sudden from going way low, and letting off the throttle will find you on your back. You need to stay on the throttle, and only let of a tad. Then you ease back on it. I found my back at Texas World a week ago from saving a highside which bascially became a lowside.

Or both - I saw a guy on a 600RR do that at the end of the straight every lap on a wet track day last year... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Incredible that he didn't put it in the gravel trap...

Gimpsta!!!! Are you telling me you went down again?! How many trackdays and how many "get-offs" is that now for you? Calm down out there.

He's a funny guy.

what ever. its 2 wrecks in 3 track days. I don't count the first track day becasue i got bumped wide off the track over a pot hole from the previous rain off the track. Then i highsided on the first lap when it was freezing cold on bridestones. Wrecking is part of it, especially when you first start pushing it. Some people go at it easy, some attack it.

0 for 3 here and I still have to concentrate to NOT attack it. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

how I enter, well probably it is a bit slow as compared to what an avid racer does it at. its the street side of me trying to make sure the corner is negotiable before diving into it, because all to often on the street its tree or oncoming car you hit - not a run off of kitty litter. With more time on/at the track hopefully i develop more technique with entering a corner. going low with hard lean angles and even getting on the throttle easy seem to be things I do well, but entering with hard trail braking still behooves me.

Maybe I'm wrong, but t kind of sounds to me, gimpsta, that you're making excuses for not going as fast as some guys. If that's the case - DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT!!!! Take things at your own pace bro. No matter who you are, there will always be probably quite a few people that blow your doors off. You'll always be faster than some, slower than others.

Hey - shit happens. But if you're crashing as much as you are, I'd say you're getting a little in over your head. Slow shit down to a point where you feel comfortable and can think things through... relax. Focus on one thing at a time. work on lines one session, work on corner entries the next, etc, etc. maybe by the end of the day go out & put all the pieces together and see how much you've improved.

well if i need to explain it so be it but you all still won't see my point. I've already had this conversation plenty of arguments back.

Accident 1: knocked wide by another rider off the track and through a pot hole that wasn't part of the track

Accident 2: the red/white stripes on the inside of the corner - dont' run over them at 50mph on the first lap with BRIDGESTONES

Accident 3: Hell ya I bit it. I went hard and low on a lefty. Tired legs due to being the last lap of the day. So I didn't hardly get off the bike as before. So the bike was brought lower to compensate. Well got way on her edge and bit to much throttle coming out.

I'm fine - and no I don't have a complex about others being faster. I'm already running times for what limited track experience I have as my friend, when he started racing. And he's not that bad either.

So.... yes I've been down. Just way the cards were drawn. Your risking it everytime you go out, just because it didn't happen doesn't mean it never will.

Practicing controlled sliding is one reason my 02 1k has never been down. I really do believe that if you slide it on purpose every once in a while, should your rear ever slide out on you when you do not expect it, you will have developed the muscle memory to immediately react and correct the situation.
