With the blessing of the moderators here, this is what I would like to do, I would like to begin the first ever annual Gixxer rally, to be held this year at Deals Gap in September. I have been to a few rally's up there and have had a great time everytime. This is a great opportunity to put some names to faces, ride some great roads, and of course, drink some beer. September is a great time to go because it is starting to cool off a little(70's day/50's night), the leaves are just starting to change, and the fall vacation traffic has typically not quite started. The two possible dates I have looked at are 1-5 September(Labor day weekend), or 8-12 September (both dates being thursday through monday which seems to work best). Here is where we would stay http://www.fontanavillage.com/ This is a great place. They are motorcycle friendly, give great group discounts, can hold lots of people, and the cabins are VERY nice. I really want to get some serious input into what you guys think before I start doing a lot of legwork. I know most of the west coast guys are probably not interested because its too far (even though I may have to fly Blaise and Markbsea out for entertainment http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif). If I could get fifty interested people, I am pretty sure I could get some prize giveaways and such. A hundred people, we can start talking sponsors possibly even showing up there. Here is what it typically costs for a rally like this.........$250.........That's it folks. This is not a very taxing trip monetarily. The more people, the cheaper it becomes.

I would really like to see this happen, and I am willing to make the calls and do the legwork, but it will be a pain, so I am not gonna do it until I have Thirty people from this site that say "yes if we had a rally, I would DEFINATELY be there" We would also need to narrow down a date, but again, I suggest one of the two I posted earlier.

What else is there to do? I would bring the whole family and let my husband ride. We're already taking a vacation alone so I dont want to leave my kids twice. Also I'm flying round trip once and only once so how far is it from CT?

Check out the fontana link I posted up. There are tons for the kids to to and tons of sightseeing. I have a buddy from Buffalo I met there every year and I think it takes him 12 hours to drive

Finsl if you can try and make sure there are no other events being planned for the same weekend. Last year SVRider.com planned a weekend rally at the Gap, and it just so happened that the Subby forum planned a rally on the same weekend. Needless to say it wasn't pretty. I'd maybe suggest planning it during the middle of the week to cut down on the traffic. Weekends there seem like it can be one long ass train ride.

Man with some of the relationships on this board it would be one hell of a rally!! lol

I know we won't be the only ones at Road Atlanta Labor Day weekend, a few GDC members attend it. You might want to consider the latter weekend. I'm completely up for it. I know I'll have vacation time for it. . .Joe's the one that'll have to decide this. . .although, I know he's been itching to go up there.

I definitely plan on being at Road Atlanta for Labor day weekend, so that one's out.

April 25th is the Tour of Georgia, I'd like to be up there to see some of that. It'd be awesome to have my bike up that way and catch a track day. But I'll have alot going on with school then, so I've got a feeling I'll be down here in Ft. Lauderdale busting ass.

No, if it is NOT the labor day weekend we are probably in. Not a deffinate but a possibility. It will all depend on my work schedule. We are going through some significant changes right now.

Wifey, if you stay in Knoxville, it’s about an hour ride to the Gap, and about 50 mins the other direction to get to Gatlinburg, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Dollywood, etc. That should provide the family things to do while you go ride. There’s even some nice back roads that cut between the two without going back through Knoxville. You could make a day ride through the Gap a few times, circle around towards Gatlinburg area to meet up with the family, eat dinner, shop a bit, then you’re in for about a 40 min ride back to knoxville (traffic’s better in the evening).

Of course I’m like every other guy in that I like to meet pretty women, but I’m pretty harmless…..I’m married and plan to keep it that way.

In September, you will likely be fine wearing leathers, as you can vent or unzip a little bit in the day and be ok, but it won’t be too cool in the evening to zip up and keep riding till dark.

I heard about that week. Everybody said they were the worst crew ever up there, when it came to going off the road and slinging gravels all back on it. I have found that so many people try to get up there early in the day that about 2-4pm it clears out a lot. I’d be fine with a weekday, but also fine with a weekend.

Oh, and just so you guys are a bit jealous, I went and rode the Gap and Foothills Parkway just 2 days ago, and it was great!!! Haha!!! If anybody’s in the area, I’m ready to go back just about any day but don’t want to go alone.

Why Deals Gap? Seems over used and over visited to me. I hit the area at least twice a year but there are so many other roads better than the Gap. And don't even think about doing it on a weekend.

BTW: Congrats on trying to get the gixxer community together.

It's kinda hard to get people to buy into a concept of "there's this killer road near my house, drive all day to get here, get a motel room, and we'll ride it." Aside from a track, this is the closest you will come to an attraction that will gather riders.

I understand where you're coming from Engloid, but somewhere more centrally located tends to draw the most participation. There are many successful gatherings in Arkansas and practically the entire state North of I40 is spectacular riding conditions. There is just something about the Gap that encourages a competitive spirit and it seems like many of the Gixxer.com members may be fairly new to riding. Some of them may not participate due to being a little intimidated. An environment where there can be many riding opportunities with ride leaders conducting various paced rides could possibly appeal to a larger group and therefore a larger turnout. Why not create a poll to see what kind of interest even exist for something like this? Like I said I congratulate you on trying to do this and would love to see a Gix get together similar to other brand specific groups. From my experience with this site so far this is what is missing with the Gixxer community. I'm just throwing my .02 out there for consideration. Will definitely try to make whatever event eventually comes together. Good luck and if you need any help with this let me know.....be glad to assist in any way I can.

Hey.... if I am not working the days of the ride, I'd like to do it. My brother owns a rental chalet in Gatlinburg that has 2 bedrooms plus a sleeper sofa. Fully equipped. Very nice place. Lot better than staying in a hotel. If anyone needs a place to stay, give me a heads up. I can give you info and pics.

A few of us are going back up from 4-11 Sept. However, We may be staying at TWO in Suches, GA and ride out that way with a few Gap trips thrown in. The Gap is only one road, there are MANY more all around there.

I am a little hesitant at this point to try to get a huge GDC group up there(planning wise), but I will tell you this, If you wanna go and are serious, post up here or PM me and we'll work out the details. If you have never been, this is the PERFECT time of the year to go.

I think it was more of a matter of lack of participation. I went...but didn't see anything but the normal number of gsxr's there. I almost went today, as it was 60 here in TN...but figured the roads were still kinda cool. I recently bought some leather pants with pucks, went to the Gap once since, and figured if I went today, I'd be wanting to break in the pucks... and it's not much of a day for traction. Therefore, I stayed around the house.

If you decide to hit up the gap sometime, gimme a shout. Unless it's a week I have my daughter, I can make it there.
