ive got a 2001 gsxr 600 with mods and im wondering how or where i can find information on seting up my suspension? its lower 2 inches in the rear and none in the front. i drag race but i also like to hit the twisties and im wondering if i can set it up a little better. it handles great now but i know it can be better even though i screwed up the steering geometry. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Lowered the rear 2inches but not the front? Thats gotta look weird, not to mention not handle well in turns. I would take the bike to someone who knows about suspension...like a reputable race shop. Even a dealer knows basically nothing when it comes to setting up a bikes suspension. Dealerships do repair work...not performance work. Revalve the forks and get some springs for you weight and style (street only , race only , or trackday/steet). My suspension was rebuilt about 3 weeks ago with Race Tech valves in forks and shock with new springs in the forks. It still needs a little more tuning in the front (compression to stiff) but it's worlds different than stock. Even if you get your ride height back to normal and have the stock suspension adjusted to your weight, you will notice a difference. I plan on raising the rear and lowering the front a little to help with my turn in.

By the way, if you have your bike set up for drag racing...especially since you added NOS, by trying to make your suspension for better twisty riding you are going to suffer alot in straight line racing.

im well aware of all of this and i work at a dealership. im just wondering if i can set the suspension up to handle a little better in the turns even though its lowered. its not a dedicated drag racer i just race on the weekends. im not ready to tear apart the front forks im just looking for some settings i can try out. and no it dosnt look wierd you can barely even notice its lowered.

I used to keep track of my stock suspesion numbers but when I got everything rebuilt with some good internals I trashed them. Sorry bro. A buddy of mine has his rear lowered a bit and front is stock. We did a track day yesterday and he had to take off the kickstand because he was dragging it on the downhill, off camber turns. He's going to put it back up to at least stock height he said. Honestly though, I think you need to level out the bike at least and then start tuning from there (that's if you don't want to raise it back to stock height). As you mentioned, the geometry is way off with just the rear lowered that much. If you lower the front alot and if you forks are soft, when you hit the brake hard you might scrape the bottom of the fairings before you bottom out your suspension. Then again you might not...I dunno.

no i really dont have any problems and i ride the bike pretty hard. i have adjustable links so i can raise the bike back up if i wanted to go to the road course. but im just wondering if anyone knows something if not thats cool cause im strait with the way my bike is now i just think it could be a bit better if i dial the suspension in for my weight and stiffness.

Welp, most guys don't lower the rearend.....and I wouldn't want the rear lowered if I was riding in the Twisties.....hinders the handleing of the bike....Try experimenting... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
