Im trying to polish the gas tank lid and the triple clamp. I got all the paint off them now so its time for wet sanding. Has anyone done this before? Im obviously going to need some low grit to get the machine lines out of the clamp and the ridges out of the tank lid. Should I use 320 or go lower than that? Any tips would help

320 isnt an abrasive grit..the ridges in the cap are pretty deep. maybe 80 grit for a minute and then 120 to 150. just keep trying to get the marks from the previous sanding with each new grit....

if you have a dremel, you would save yourself some carpal tunnel and fingertips.....just take it easy with the powertools. aluminum, after all, is soft....

just remember that a powertool is like your hand a thousand times faster. don't push hard at all..go E Z...even if u go slow, it will still be faster (and less painful) than using your hands...

you can also get buffing wheels and pads for the dremel..\

it's a great lil tool...i use it all the time on household and automotive projects....good luck...
