I've got an 01 600, stock wheels. I had some aircraft aluminum stripper and it wasn't working well so I bought some new since that stuff was pretty old and looked nasty. Got the new stuff now and it still doesn't work. It strips stuff off my footpeg brackets ok, but not the wheels, my friend used the same stuff on his 01 750 and it took the stuff right off the wheels, his were black as well. It is cold up here and the garage isn't heated, could that be the problem?

I doubt the heat has anything to do with it
Well how cold is it
Try oven cleaner but usually that is the least best of the two

Dude, that's because you're wheels are not painted, they are powder coated. Better get out the sandpaper. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bitchslap.gif

I thought everybody used that stuff to remove the coating from the wheels? Any idea why it isn't working on mine?

I wouldn't sand blast if I was you. Ask some body shops in your area if there is anyone who does soda blasting. It wont etch or damage the metal.

Use AIRCRAFT STRIPPER. It will take the powder coating off very easily. You can usually get it at any automotive store.

I used the Aircraft stripper on my wheels when I did the polishing thing. Don't know why its not working on yours. Soda blasting will work. Glass beads will work too, but will need more sanding and polishing to get a smooth finish.

man its to much work to get it to shine decently. get it powerdercoated the color you want, or chromed. polished takes work. no matter what you do - everytime you ride they get filthy.

It is the unheated Garage. It should be at least 65deg. Also pain it on thick, do not go over twice just thick the first time. Then place the wheel carefully into a heavy duty black trash bag for about an hour or so.
