I have an 03 600 a friend of mine told me that a header off a 1000 would work on my bike...Is this true and is the header off the 1000 a poor mans performance mod...Thanks

just put a 02 1000 header on my 03 600 with a 750 engine. Don't know if it helps performance. It's lighter!

1000 headers will fit 750s NOT 600s. This is becuase the heads are the same on the 750 and 1000. My advice save up for something designed for your bike or just pick up a bolt on and have it dyno tuned.

This my friend is a pictures of a 01 600 with headers off of a 03 1000, and it won't work????? Damn I wish someone would have told me that http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bash.gif before I bolted it right up and it does work. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/flipa.gif

worked fine for me as well. the rear bolt on the header takes a little pushing to get it to line up but fit like a charm every place else.
dont worry... its like that for a motor swap, not just to put on the headers.

ya i've heard they work also. and its a huge difference going to the titanium. although, isn't there a problem with the rubbing of the fairings, or something melting against the headers? i'm not certain but i thought I remembered something about it.

BULLSHIT, I have a 1000 header on my 600 and it bolted up like it was made for it. You also need the midpipe with the header.

do u need to see it?

your going to notice. the older 600/750's didn't come stock with the titanium headers. Your proabably saving almost 20lbs just from that.

Ahhh, ahahah. Your not going to save 20lbs. You might save 3 or 4lbs max.

I see a lot of guys have done this and myself have wondered about it for my 750.

But nobody had and concrete numbers on performance. With my caliper both the 750 pipes and the 1k pipes seem the same diameter. Understanding exhaust flow......pipes longer in some places and shorter in others changes where the power is. Has to do with the cams and valving.......and seeing the bends in the 1k are quite different.......it has to have some sort of affect......if it is good i have no idea. Someone needs to do it back to back on a dyno.

Im thinking it may just drop a little weight, may not give any hp gains. I would imagine if it was that easy of a HP gain suzuki would of put those size headers on from the get go.

This topic has been talked about so much it isn't even funny anymore. You are not going to see a 20 pound savings but it is more than 4 pounds.

The 1k headers are just a tad bigger than the 750's, but it’s the wall thickness that is the biggest difference. Steel tubing has to be thicker to have the same strength has Titanium. Also titanium is more expensive to produce and harder to work with than steel. That is probably why Suzuki doesn't put them on every bike.

This mod is probably the best bang for the buck for our bikes. You can pick one up on eBay for under 50 shipped if you look hard enough or get one from a friend for free. Even if it only gives you 1 HP it makes up for it in the weight department. Weight=HP

stock 01 750 header 21 lbs. stock 1000 header and mid pipe 8 lbs. the 1000 has a slightly larger diameter than the 750 in areas. its a good mod.
