: Another 1000 Swap Question?

Alright fellas... Before I get started, I have done my research... I am in the middle of putting a 2k4 1000 engine in my 2k2 gsxr 1000. I opted to change out the ckp sensor and the sprocket from the crankshaft that drives the cam chain instead of swapping out the whole wiring harness and computer. My problem is that the folks that are swapping out the sprocket are saying that the 2k2 sprocket won't fit on the 2k4 crankshaft... Does anyone have experience with this, is this true? Shouldn't the sprockets be interchangable?

no the sprockets arent interchangeable the 04 sprocket will fit the 02 but the 02 will not fit the 04 because on the 04 sprocket one of the teeth takes up the space of two teeth,so the crank is keyed that way therefore the 02 sprocket wont slide over the04 crank.

Thanks for the info... Will the 2k2 crank fit in the 2k4 engine?

Nevermind... Stupid question. Don't answer that...
So, in order to make this work, can I just swap out the 2k2 computer for the 2k4 computer, or will I need the wiring harness as well?

tipster876, trust me, you didn't want that 02 1000 motor. I opened it up, and it looked like someone sprayed metal shavings and chunks all over the inside of the motor. Top end, and bottom end... If I could have saved it, I would have...

Good luck on your hunt, though...

fyi...
We are talking about the Cam Chain Drive sprocket. Not the engine sprocket with the speed sensor rotor...
