Ok...WTF. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif...I have been on my Gixxer1k for about a month now and I am still having issue with my hands going numb. I ride to work everyday which is about 65 miles one way and takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes. My right hand will start to go numb after about 30 minutes on the bike. I have bought gel gloves which have helped some. Anyone else have this problem? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifI'm not sure if it is engine vibration of circulation getting cut off to my hands for some weird reason.

Yep, on my bike, I find that too. I just got a new set of gloves, hopefully that fixes it. I think the vibrations are just part of being on a race bike though.

sorry officer

sounds to me like your alittle tense gripping the grip alittle to tight or stiff arming will be uncomfortable also loosen up a bit and u should be fine.

A month really isn't long enough to Aclimate your body to the riding position on a sportbike, especailly on a race orientened bike like the gixxer...usually takes a couple of months to get use to the positon your in..Also, as waas stated, gripping the bars to tight will have an effect on your hands going numb, and the handeling of your bike..

Try this, if your puttin most of your weight on your wrist's and hands, try grabbing the tank with your knees, and use your back, and stomach muscles to support your weight, that relieves the pressure on your hands. Another thing, try changeing positions while riding, i.e...take your left hand off the bars, and rest your forearm on your left leg, or the gas tank, by alternating you keep a constant pressure off most parts of your back, shoulders, and wrist's...Another solution is to get a Throttlemister..which you can set the amount of thottle you want, personally I don't like em, cuzz I like to be in control of everything on my bike.

Oh, and try shifting your weight around on the seat, that helps too.

First thing I would say is try some aftermarket grip with a thicker compound.

This is a common problem on the 1000 as well as many other bikes. I have Carpal Tunnel so it was especially bothersome for me.... Aftermarket grips helped some but not enough for me so I developed a fix.

I have developed a product that substantially reduces vibrations transmitted to my hands that is still in the testing stage but should be completed in the next 2 weeks, then I will be selling it.

PM or Email (jcotter@maxlean.com) me if you are interested.

I'm suprised nobody mentioned filling the inside portion of the clip-ons with silicone...I have done it on my MX bikes in the past with good results...

I haven't needed to do this on any sport bike yet.

fill your clip-ons with BB's and cap off the end so they dont fall out in a turn. the added weight knocks down vibration.

Are your elbows completely loose? It's easy for me to forget to keep my elbows bent on the gix. You can make the "ok" with your throttle hand and wriggle your fingers to deal with it without letting off the gas.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem. My vibrations aren't confined to the handlebars, though. I get some good ones on the pegs and even the frame under the gas tank. Mostly, I think it's the shitty roads down here.

My hands do get numb, and I know it has nothing to do with my posture or grip. When I'm not actively working the throttle, my hand is just resting on it. Same with the left side. Some aftermarket grips are in my future...

update on the set of RHYNO gloves off eBAY. They cut down on the vibration I felt.
Good luck

I bought some weighted bar ends which helped significantly on vibration and added a nice look http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif other than that, alot has to do with how you position yourself on your bike, a little of dampening , Gl to you

How long have you been riding sport bikes? If your a new rider give it time and your body will adapt to the bike. Seems like your tense and are putting a lot of weight on the grips.

Small bb's sound like a good idea, but what if you wreck at the track and sheer a clip on. It would be a nasty liability to leave those bb's on the track http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I may dip the bb's in silicone and then drop them in there so they cling to the bar.

I have the same problem and have been riding about a couple of months. I think I forget and put too much pressure on the throttle hand and/or grip to tightly. I try the above mentioned methods including not using just my wrists to support weight and it helps some. I usually just clutch and coast while resting my throttle hand for 5-10 seconds and shake it out a little and it helps a lot.

And while you, and others are at it...Concentrate on RELAXING when you ride, and Breathe...you'd be surprised how many riders hold their breath, which causes you to tense up...One way to relax is, and I know this may sound funny, but it works f]or me, is to Sing to yourself, ya gotta breath if ya sing..right..? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Greg, I've tried everything and mine will go numb after about 20 minutes. Not in the sections of road that you can actually turn the bike, only on the freeway stretches. Like I, I've tried everything.

Go buy a bike and you'll understand you tightwad!!! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif

In my case the hands going numb was down to my body posture and riding position. I used to get numb hands and fingers all the time until i changed my riding position. One of the things that i felt helped the most was to make sure that i kept my forearms parallel with the ground. This ensured that there is no pressure on my wrists at all (also makes it easier to control the bike as it makes counter-steering easier). This helped because my hands weren't starved from blood, this is caused when the wrist is bent and it has pressure applied to it subsequently sqeezing the vains and partially closing them. The other big help was to squeeze the tank with my inner legs and support myself with my back and stomach muscles i found this hard at first but soon got used to it. Another help was what old man gixxer said you just have to keep moving every now and again as this helps circulation and stops any pressure building up in the wrists.

Keep it shiney side up!!!!

04 Gixxer is right... If you keep you hands/ wrist/ forearms as parallel to the ground as you can this should alleviate this problem. I had a horrible problem with this when I first got my Gix, and I also had the same problem when I started typing more at work... so my doctor suggested the parrallel with the keyboard/ parrallel with the road and it works.

Now my "stuff" likes to go numb on really long rides, so I just have to stand up on the pegs or stand up at lights and all that good stuff.

is singing in your lid like singing in the shower? i don't race but when i'm on the freeway at speed i sing along with my mp-3 all the time, i think we sound better than we think. i stopped at a light here in town the other day and was going off on a godsmack and i look over in the next lane and there's a car full of middle aged women looking at me like i'm f$#%ing nuts. i guess you had to be there, but on the vibration thing, try the bar ends and silicone or bb's but get the copper ones. this seems to cut back ALOT of bar tingling from my 750. i have the same problem with my hands.i hate that cause i use ny right one all the time!(go ahead "insert joke here") good luck!--maknot--

My hands did the same thing for a while when I first had my bike. I invested in some heavier bar ends which took nearly all of the vibration out. Works grate...I even got them in chrome.

I have a 55 mile commute to work 51 of which is highway.
It helps me if I just stay on one wheel! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif
No seriously
Riding position should be such that you are holding yourself on the bike with your legs and torso.
You're hands are only used to throttle and clutch.
And flip off minivans who won't get off my racetrack.
Loosen up. Or buy a goldwing.

And by adding more weight, your bike is now SLOWER... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

what helped me a ton was to adjust the angle of the clip ons and the angle of the brake & clutch levers. setting the bike's controls up for me made the entire difference. no more numbness. set the bike up to you.
and also, freeway droning on these will just do it to you, even with the perfect set up.

Your hands numb because your putting too much weight on the handle bars. Grip the tank with your thighs, tighten your stomach and back muscles to absorb some of the weight. This will improve your handling as it decreases the preload on the front fork. When you get tired switch to either lying on the tank or back to your wrists.

"paritially closing the veins"" hahahaahha thats goood you cant close your own veins!!! think about ti, ya might feel like ya are, but yr not.....it is simply ya have to get used to it...every new season its hard to keep them from numbing...its like any other sport ya gotta practice everyday just like workin out....then u will get used to it and forget about it...
