: Time to replace springs?

I weigh in the region of 200 lb. The forks bottom out during braking. I have been told it's time to replace springs. Is there any specific spring specification that I should be looking for? What costs am I looking at?

Springs do not wear out in the normal life span of a motorcycle. They are good for several million cycles. It's also very difficult to bottom a fork. You need to be very hard on the brakes and hit a good sized bump. You are however a little heavy for the stock springs on most bikes. What model GSXR do you have?

Out of curiousity, what bike, and are these stock forks/springs? What type of riding?

The bike is a 2002 model GSX-R 600. No modifications have been made to the bike yet. I have adjusted the Pre load and the damping a little. I put a cable tie around the forks and after every ride, the lower part of the fork has pushed the cable tie right up. The cable tie cannot go any higher. Any sugestions?

The bike is under srpung and under damped. You could run the pre load full hard, (no lones showing) and the compresssion damping at -1/8 turn out and it will be better on the bottoming. However, it will be too stiff on the small bumpos and at low speed stuff. The best solution is to revalve. You can check our web site for several options, but the one I recomend is a revalve with our Dual Speed pistons. Retail $550 less 20% GDC discount.

I would definitely consider changing your fork springs as well as considering doing something with the rear (spring/aftermarket replacement). I would also suggest doing some valving to help also.

Front springs are somewhat inexpensive, and are very easy to swap out...if you know what your doing. I would suggest somewhere around a.95kg-.975kg fork springrate, and somesort of valving...or at least an oil change.

Please try and consider doing something with the rear also to help balance with the new change to the front.

Hope this helps!
