hey guys and gals, i just bought a 03 gsxr i only weigh 165-170 lbs. The rear feels real hard when i hit bumps and things, plus i cant get the bike to wheel hardly at all. Some one told me to soften up the compression, and stiffen up the rebound so i can "bounce" the front end, I know its a "crotch" rocket but is ther any way to set the suspension up to get a better ride? thanks.

Do you want it to handle well or just be able to wheelie it? If you've got too much rebound and not enough compression then your bike will probably end up handling like crap for riding....unless you plan on only riding on one wheel all the time.

I want it to handle good, but i would like to be able to at least pull the front wheel up when i want it too. thanks.

If you dampen the rebound this will help prevent it from coming up. Soften the rebound and it will get more springy which will help push the front end up into the air.

If you can't wheelie that bike, it's you, not the suspension. if you try to set up the suspension to help you wheelie doing what you describe, you a) won't get much help at all from it, and b) will make the bike handle like shit for normal riding.

for wheelies- work on your technique.

Ok so I would rather have it handle good on the road, i can live with out wheeliing everywhere. How do i start to put everything back to stock settings?, and how/what adjustments do I make it right? again im like 175lbs. 6'1''.

It's important to get the ride heights close. I think most are raising the fork tubes 3-5mm and have 338mm eye to eye in the rear. This is done with no weight on the rear tire (fully extended).

From there you want to get your sag close. Roughly 12-20mm of free sag in the front and 35-38mm of rider sag. The rear should be 5-8mm of free sag and 28-30mm of rider sag.

From there the adjusters will very. You'll just have to tinker with them. Read the article in this forum called Reading Material. There is a link that will help show you what to look for.
