: 750 1997 VS 750 2000
jello1000 04-23-2002, 07:07 PM I WANT TO CHANGE MY BIKE SHOULD I GET THE 2000 750 ,IS THERE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN POWER AND PERFORMANCE ?
I WANT TO BLOW BY MY BUDDY WITH HIS 750 1998
AND IS IT TRUE THAT THE 2000 IS UP AN R1'S ASS AND A ZX9'S ASS 929 TOO!!!THATS PRETTY FAST !!!
THANKS
audi1031 04-23-2002, 09:21 PM i think the 2k has a 3% more hp better mid range 40lbs lighter the way you sit on bike 2k you seem on top vs pre 2k its like you riding in the bike. think out the box stock 2k 123 rwhp.
fRaGgLe 04-23-2002, 11:29 PM A jet kit, decent pipe, and a dyno will have you past him.
Of course getting the shocks re-worked would help hugely, and perhaps working on that scratching technique would help...
audi1031 04-25-2002, 01:18 PM can't get around lbs unless your a crack head graemlins/bounce.gif
fRaGgLe 04-25-2002, 06:02 PM So, with a bit of work - head, cams, zaust, k&n's. A quick re-jet and setup on the dyno and the newr bike is toast.
My '98 750 was pulling around 130hp at its height - its done a lot of miles since those days, but its still very quick, and despite giving 30lbs away I am sure it will see off a stock '02 750.
I would spend the money on your current ride images/icons/smile.gif

Leonardo629 04-25-2002, 06:48 PM it all depends...if you want to blow by your buddy on straight line stuff...then yeah...a 2000 will allow you to blow by him...provided that you and him weigh about the same...
if you are talking about corner stuff...then if you are slow on 97...you will also be equally slow on the newer 2000..
audi1031 04-25-2002, 08:50 PM have you been on a 2k 750 yet? vs your older style model 750 the older style to me is a tad more comfortable and i feel like i am riding the bike not on top of bike now the comparsion you actually should be doing is 1000 vs your older model.
GdSaXnR 04-25-2002, 09:28 PM Actually, according to the 1998 Motorcycle Buyer's guide,(they did a big article on the "new" 98 GSXR750) the '97 actually makes more power. You just need to tune your bike right as far as the jetting goes. One day I will run against my brother ('97 750) and I will find out the truth to that article, but I am also 50 pounds heavier than him.
jetjock16 04-25-2002, 10:43 PM The previous statement is somewhat correct, also if you look at stock 1/4 mile times the 96 is the fastest 97,98,99 keep gettin a bit slower, mill the head, get cams, jet or carbs, find someone who really knows what they are doing, my 96 with all those mods rips by my friends y2k 750 ,fellow racer with just pipes and remap, his bike is lighter to throw through the corners, but you can throw yours around, go with the mods unless your serious about racin then go with the new bike cause if ya thow all the mods on the newer bike , the sky is the limit, and if your in superstock class and you cannot change cam size etc, they will get you on the long straight aways. 97's a fast bike, just build it up a little.

ironhead 04-25-2002, 11:36 PM Ive heard bad things about the y2k 750 2nd gear going out on people. I think i would avoid that year all together. Suzuki isnt even helping them. Theres a thread in either GD or AG.
1Kdude 04-26-2002, 02:11 AM I remember the 2 full wet weights as about 453 vs 425, or 28 lbs and the peak rwhp as about 115 vs 122 or so on a dynojet dyno. The 2 top speeds are 165 and 172 mph, I forget the 1/4 mile times form the magazines but its a few tenths I think. A '97 is about $5000-$5500 and a 2000 around $7400 give or take. Probably the better rider on either bike will go faster in MHO and he'd have $2000 cash if he were on the 97. images/icons/wink.gif
CASINO 04-27-2002, 10:10 AM I've found so far that with a lil work (jets, pipes and lowering the front a bit) on your bike and the nuuttz to twist your right wrist that the '97 can match the '01 and '02's... just my personal experience
