I need to block a website so a guy will stop slacking so much...not me on GDC but another guy.....does a router offer that option and Im overlooking it.....unfortunetly the modem goes directly to the router to the hub then the pcs....so there is no pc in between to manage.
And I cant access his pc to do it....Im not his boss...but I told him several times and he shrugs me off then does it again....the rest of us work literally 10 times harder.
I was thinking a program I can put on my pc to attack the address of the site he is using on our network.
But Im no network guru...I got the basics...thats it..

My router does offer it, its in firewall/security settings, and as long as he doesn´t have access to it, the site won´t show up anymore. The server admin of the network itself should be able to block the sites IP adress as well, so you can block it either via router (hardware) or via firewall/network settings (software). Oh wait, you said there is no pc in between, well then you can do it only via the router I guess.

What kind of router are you using? Most routers have capabilites to block certain ip's to ip's on the network through the web interface or telneting it. Or you can be a complete ass and block port 80 to his puter http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. If you're the admin of the network and he disregarded your warning then I would punish him a little. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

If you're using a dns server managed in-house, you could just have dns for that website resolve to 127.0.0.1. Or if you can open up his default windows share you could change his hosts file so that the dns for the website resolves to 127.0.0.1. That's a quick hack that only works if he doesn't check his hosts file.

the hosts file is probably your best chance since:
A)You dont know much about PCs
B)You dont know anything about routers
C)You wont have access to the routers
D)We can tell you what to put in the hosts file
Another then you can do if you get access to his hosts file is remove his own security permissions to it so he cant modify it.
