: New Suit
ahhhwhereditgo 03-14-2012, 07:49 PM So I was doing a lot of research on some suits out there, was looking mostly at budget suits. Came across a deal that I couldnt pass up. Was almost $100-$200 less then any of the other suits I was looking at. On top of that, it was an Alpinestars, so I figured even if its their worst and bottom line, its still probably going to be a quality suit. Would be less of a gamble then some of the other suits I was considering anyway.
CR One Piece Suit
It feels great. Heavier then I thought it would be, but looks like it was extremely welly put together. First suit Ive ever tried on so from what I can feel, it fits pretty well. There's some...tension in the crotch, as in the torso feels slightly short. Oddly it feels great in a riding position though. I figured it would get worse with my body bent, figured it would pull even more, but it feels great. Thighs fit fairly well, the only spot its a bit loose is around the waist/hips and butt, but again, in a tuck position everything falls right in place. Shoulders, chest, and arms fit perfect. Armor is exactly where it should be and feels like they are top notch. Took my wifes help to wrestle the damn thing off me though haha. Extremely happy with the purchase.
Front...Even my TV was giving a thumbs up..

jnilla 03-14-2012, 07:56 PM Based on my limited experience, A* is always a good choice. Plus you can't beat a deal right? Nice looking suit by the way, congrats. :cheers As for the fit, you have to remember that most of the gear is designed to be comfortable when you're on the bike, not walking around.
1/4milecrazy 03-14-2012, 07:57 PM That is the way its supposed to fit.
Looks good, great choice.
Dr Oz?? Let me guess your wife was watching it?? :rolleyes I know, my GF was watching it too :facepalm
First pic you kind of look like Tom Hanks.

Yep, Dr Oz... :lol My wife is like addicted to that show.
And damn you....I just went through the whole Tom Hanks stuff at work literally like 2 days ago...have to make sure they dont see this. :shifty
Dirty Fish Taco 03-14-2012, 08:36 PM Nice suit :thumbup The one pic looks like your dog is about to bite your dick off
Vooduguru 03-14-2012, 09:04 PM :wtf is that on her head?
ahhhwhereditgo 03-14-2012, 09:41 PM :wtf is that on her head?
:lol not a damn clue.
Im excited now. Gear wise Im officially pretty much ready for the track. All I got left is a good back protector. Didnt think Id ever get there with all the damn gear and how expensive this stuff can be. The end is finally in sight haha. Just had to take my time and get a few good deals here and there.
With the money I saved I can get a good back protector and possibly woodcraft rearsets to start of my first track season.

Very cool. Definitely get the back protector, but you can probably skip off on the rearsets for now. If you get out there and find yourself dragging your pegs, then go invest in some rear-sets, but otherwise you're just going to make crashing at the track that much more expensive. If I started from scratch again with my track bike, it would be (in order): frame sliders, engine case covers, track bodywork, tires, spare rims, tires for spare rims....then start looking at things like rearsets, exhausts, 520 kit, suspension. Oh, and tack on a steering damper towards the beginning if your bike doesn't have one stock. I'm actually considering putting my stock exhaust back on my track bike after I've discovered the cost of replacement parts for Leo Vince.
Make yourself crash worthy, then your bike crash worthy, then learn to go fast, then if you find yourself being limited by something, replace it then. Just my 2 cents.
Nice suit! :punk
Will_1000 03-15-2012, 12:46 PM Alpinestars are def one of the better suits out there...how much did you pay for it ?
Jason@STG 03-15-2012, 01:52 PM looks good man, that CR is definitely a solid suit. :cheers
Oddly it feels great in a riding position though.
not odd:nono, these are cut to be ridden in. if it's not tight in the crotch it's not the right size.

$430 shipped. Yea I love it so far.
Quick question...do some of you guys have to remove shin armor to get your boots completely zipped up? The zippers on the boots feel like they are screaming with how much I have to force them up. When I put the velcro flap over its 2 inches or so more open then normally, about half of the..soft? side of the hook and loop patch is still showing. I have large calves, boots and suit individually feel great but together it border line doesnt fit. It seems the #1 complaint I read about the CR was way too baggy calves, but they have very little extra leather in my case, so thats an idea of how large my calves are. Read a post were a guy with SMX Plus had the same issue, dont know if this is faily common.
Boots are the new model Chicanes i picked up from STG a few weeks ago. Once I zip up, I try to crank the flap over as much as I can to lessen the load on the zippers themselves up, but it def takes a really good tug while squeezing the boot together to zip the last inch or so up.
Jason@STG 03-15-2012, 02:25 PM doesnt exactly surprise me, those boots are pretty slim. they're open up a little bit over time but not a ton. either way, i've never heard of someone taking the knee/shin armor out.

Thanks for the tips. Thats pretty much what Im trying to do. Havent done a thing to the bike yet. Came stock with a steering damper, put frame sliders on it already. Does have after market chain and sprockets, no clue if its 520 or not to be honest though. The only thing I had planned to do with the bike was rearsets, although you reminded me that I was in the market for a spare set of wheels. I have aftermarket fairings on the bike right now, still have my rashed set of OEM fairings which I was going to repair and rattle can with the intention of using on the track.
Would that suffice or should I look into investing in an actual set of race plastics instead?

Thats what I figured. I only considered it because of the 2 piece design A* uses and wasnt sure if all suits had that much shin armor to begin with. The boots go on and dont feel overly constrictive to where it will hinder me or be uncomfortable. I was just concerned about stress on the zipper itself.
nakedinseattle 03-15-2012, 02:38 PM you got lucky you're the right body type to fit in that suit! anything of theirs i have to order up two sizes to get what would fit in anyone elses. and its not supposed to fit well with you standing up, its all about bike position, so as long as thats good, no worries. nice steal for that

The OEM fairings will be fine. The advantages of the aftermarket fiberglass body work is that you: remove weight (all your lights, trim, etc.), you don't risk breaking your headlight because it's removed, it's easier to repair (fiberglass is easy to repair), it catches the oil if it spills out of your engine, and it generally installs on and off easier. If after a few track days you find yourself getting into the sport, I would invest in some, but it's not necessary at first. Your first track day should be you in good gear and a well maintained motorcycle. You'll figure it out from there.:burnout

i've got the same boots and same problem with my suit. i'll probably just put the leathers over the boots or is that a fashion no-no ? :dunno

Some suits are actually designed for this. If it fits, then it's definitely fine, but I know on my suit and boots, there is no way I could ever get the suit over the boots.
njyork42 03-15-2012, 07:24 PM Your dog is eating your junk.
ahhhwhereditgo 03-16-2012, 07:24 AM Yea, somehow my wife always seems to take pictures that just look wierd as hell or where I always look like I have some sort of mental disability.
I guess the last pic can be the aftermath with her smiling.
Jason@STG 03-16-2012, 10:21 AM you know what, looking back each picture is quite messed up. between the big brother thumbs up, the shake weight on that lady's head, the dog/peanut butter/ball licking, and the "i still have a boner in my suit" pic you've got some gems there. hahaha
ahhhwhereditgo 03-16-2012, 11:21 AM :lol yea, as I was looking at what my wife took I first told her she sucks and can't do anything right, then pretty much said screw it and it was worth a laugh.
And it was more of a "I feel like have a Melvin" pic.
She was almost horrified that I actually posted those because she thought they were embarrassing, somehow she still hasn't realized I have no shame.

ahhhwhereditgo 03-17-2012, 05:16 PM Just an update. I read some posts regarding similar fit to boots and tried a couple things. One of them worked perfect. I hiked up the thighs a bit while sitting, to ensure that my knee was exactly where it should be. Maybe even possibly a bit higher then I would have normally tried to seat the knee to zip the calves. That pulled up the shin guard enough to put the boots on perfect. The thighs are now more baggy standing, considerably, but feel fine and look good while in riding position.
So any of you guys out there having similar problems Id give that a try.
