Does anyone know if due to a dog runing out (unleashed and we all know about cali's leash laws) and you spilling on the bike causing damages to the bike in addition to your self if you can legally approach the owner of the dog to inquire about them paying for the damages...
just as a side note this dog in this particular community is known to run out and chase cars on a daily basic's but i the person in question didn't live in that neighborhood so they found out the hard way!

I believe you can do that......the dog is fully the owners responsibility

If it is less than $5000 damage, take them to small claims court in the county where it happened. The filing fee is about $65 and if you win, they pay for that too. Just make sure you take any witness you may have.

You know i'm not sure, but it seems like you should be able to take the owners to court. You know the same thing appened to my buddy and i the other day. My body was riding #1 i was #2, the dog came out chasing him, i locked up the back wheel, honked, and luckly gained control. Both riders were cool.

Yes the owner of the dog is responsible. If you have full coverage insurance just get the bike fixed through insurance, the owner of the dog will be faulted, and your insurance company will try to get the money and your deductible back from the owner of the dog and/or their homeowner insurance. (this is what I do for a living) If no insurance for collision/comp then just take the owner to small claims court like some others said. Make sure you have pics/facts to back up your story or else it's just them against you.
