Hi all,

I've bought a 97 gsxr 600, and the thing needs some work done on it. (under warranty)

The top steering dust seal is cracked and weeping rust through the rubber. I assume there is a metal plate embedded in the seal that has been exposed and not the bearings that are rusting.

The chain slider have been mangled at the front sprocket end and needs replacing.

The tappit cover gasket is has a pretty major oil leak and needs replacing/repairing.

Now all of these are covered under warranty, however, the bike is coming up to 25000 km and the dealer has decided I will need to get the bike serviced (I have to pay for it of course images/icons/smile.gif ). Mainly it all revolves around the oil leak. They are willing to waive the cost of the gasket and share the cost of the labor, as well as the fact that the fluids were changed three weeks ago, just before I bought the bike, so they don't need doing.

As the bike is 2nd hand I dont have the owners manual, and am unsure what else is involved in the 25k (km) service. The dealer mentioned that the tappits may need adjusting, so labour shouldn't be too much as they already had to take the cover off.

Has any one got the service schedule or scanned the owners manual? (not the service manual, but that too if ya got it images/icons/smile.gif , I have a clymers book, but it does not seem to list the service intervals )

Also, I'm thinking of hitting them up for some preventative work....
The bike may be a bit of a cross bred 97/98 bastard images/icons/smile.gif with it having some rebuild work done on it. Does the 97 600 have an auto or manual cct? (I'll get them to check) and if its the auto, how do I check if it is the "good" auto?

The bike does not appear to have had the fuel gasket recall fix (I think the compliance plate should have a recall plate somewhere on it like I've seen on some 98's). Should I get it done anyway and should suzuki wear the cost? (the dealer is the local suzuki agent).

On top of that they've kept my bike for a few days (over the weekend) and have given me a POS gs500e as a loaner.... OMFG... I almost died when I gave it a handful. My old Across had more power, I want my baby back!!! graemlins/crying.gif

Thanks

At 24000k's the major service is the valve adjustments. Along with that, oil filter change, new sparkies, carbie synch, and the usual lubing of cable and pivot points.

Have a look at the steering head on the RHS where the ID number is. If the recall has been done, there should be a sticker saying "FPG recall" or something. images/icons/wink.gif Sorry, bike under cover, cant see shit right now.

The steering head bearing cover is not plastic, it's actually metal [I hope we're taking about the same thing images/icons/grin.gif ].

Bike doesnt sound like it's been looked after well. The dealer should sort all these things out b4 selling it to a customer images/icons/mad.gif

Ill leave the CCT stuff to the experts images/icons/wink.gif
Ive yet to replace it, so i dunno much about it.... except mine has a slight rattle when starting from cold images/icons/grin.gif
