My dell4500 w/ xp keeps shuting itself down and going to this blue screen that says something about memory disk dump or something and then it counts how many files it dumps and stops at a little over 100 and then the compter goes to my login in screen.
It does this about every 2 wks and no program or anything the same is running at that time..It also mentions something about memory siz but I have 28% of a 20 and 99.4% of a 80 HD...It never runs slow or acts bad it just shuts down and goes to that screen and then starts back up and runs fine....What is causing this or do I need more info??I always forget to write down what the screen says but it is a lot of shit...

Do you reboot on a regular basis, or only when it crashes? It could be a memory leak of some sort.
Also, download a memory tester like memmtest86 and run that and see if you get any errors. Also, be more specific on what the top part of the blue screen says, it should give you a filename of what caused the abend. That can help diagnose the problem.

I reboot ever week is that enough??
Also the top isn't very specific...It says something like " if a file name (enter name) shows up do this if the problem happens again or if file name (enter name) shows up do this.."
None of those files ever show up or are mentioned except in that way...But I can't remember the ones they ask for..
I will try the DL and see what it says..Thanks..

I would download one of the bootable iso's for version 3.1. Then burn it to a cd, and boot off the cd to run the test.
If you reboot every week then it probably isn't a memory leak. It used to be a problem with older versions of windows, but win2000 and winxp don't seem to suffer from it too much. But an individual program could have a memory leak and be causing it too. Next time it crashes write down what file names it mentions. Don't worry about all the hex dumps at the bottom, just what type of error and the filenames.
Good luck.

Nabit, have you ever booted that machine to a CD before? Could be the CD was burned wrong, could be the machine isn't set to boot from CD. Got a bootable CD to test that with? Anti-virus CD, linux CD, something?
I've seen flaky memory pass memtest86 though. Let us know what the tests come up with.

Did you just drag the iso image to cd, or did you create the cd from the iso image? Just dragging and dropping the iso file to a blank cd session and then burning it won't do what you want. Depending on your cd burning software, you'll need to create the cd from the iso image.
