: Where to find the size of bolts/nuts and such?

Hi, I've been looking online and trying to scour through the manual. The manual shows the bolts I need for me brakes, but not the actual size. So where to I find the sizing for these bolts.

online parts catalogs usually list the sizes next to the part numbers.

do you have a Suzuki dealer in your area? you can always go in to their service shop and find out and buy them if you need them. I'm sure you could call and someone there might be able to tell you over the phone.

Pick up some $10 vernier calipers and measure. Will come in handy in the future too.

Should be a no-brainer, but...

ALL BOLTS AND NUTS ON JAPANESE VEHICLES ARE METRIC!

Bolt diameters are measured on the "high" part of the thread. That means that when you measure a bolt hole it'll be smaller than the actual bolt. A hole for an M10 bolt will measure about 8.5mm, for an M8 about 6.8mm, etc.

Also, above M5 all standard size metric bolts are evenly sized, M6, M8, M10, M12, etc.

Length is easy to measure and the nominal length does not include the head.

yeah thats a good tip, but my problem is I am missing the bolt and need a replacement.

FWIW, caliper bolts and other bolts in high stress places have higher tensile strength than normal bolts so those you should really get from a dealer unless you know what to look for. Regular hardware store bolts don't have as high tensile rating.

Do you have access to metric taps? Try each size by hand (with your fingers only I mean) until you find one that fits properly.

digital caliper has depth gauge too. it measures ID, OD, and depth.

So will a regular caliper. That's what the "pin" that comes out the end of it is for.

And for the rear brake, just measure the combined thickness of the brackets :idea

I learned how to use a caliper in high school shop class, but I can't read one now. Digital makes me lazy.

Both do the same job, I'm always sceptical about digital readings though and go for old school.

Just personal preference.

My Dad taught me to use a mechanical caliper when I was like 7 and I've used them since. I have digital ones but they kinda needed batteries, the mechanical ones don't :lmao

Right around 7 was probably also when I learned how to solder. Electrode welding was around 10 :lmao

I agree, I think I have enough tools lying around the place for any job that could come my way:lmao

In general, go to pro-bolt usa and order one of their tubs of various metric bolts. I usually order a 200pc tub like every year. You will always need a random bolt for something.

This. I have a couple of large assortment boxes with stainless allen bolts, locknuts and washers, mostly M5, 6 and 8 in various lengths.

I'll have to order one of those 200 piece kits, but the funny part is, they don't have the bolt I'm looking for in them it seems

You can order individual bolts from the site also. I just always get one of the assortments to keep on hand at the track.
