GSXR-FREAK,

Yea I'm sure you got a lot goin on...I'm an uncle myself...I know.

Sure, just let me know about the times.

So is it a boy or Girl?!?! images/icons/smile.gif Well I changed the plugs today and it still didnt start. I also checked the fuel pump as someone suggested and it appears to be ok. I'm really thinking it might be that the cam chain jumped a tooth as you said. I dont know what else it can be. The bike sometimes starts for 2-3 seconds and then dies. I remember you saying that happens when the chain jumps a tooth. Damn I miss ridin my baby!!! BTW I typed your email address wrong - thats why you didnt get my email...woops my bad.

Nick<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">ITS A GIRL!!!! graemlins/bounce.gif At 8:27pm after 24 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing. They stopped and did a C-section. They are both fine (mom and baby). She is 23" long 8lbs 6oz and in great heath... images/icons/smile.gif

As far as your bike. If you have a lot of tools there we can set the timming at your house. If not we will need to take it to mine. Noe a big deal, I can get a trailer if we need it... The next few days are really busy...

Did you check for spark when you changed the plugs?

You say that it will start for a sec and shut off, do you have to give it gas for it to start?

It does sound like it is out of time... IMHO, you should order up a APE CCT and we can install it when we check the timming... It only takes a few extra minutes and is WELL worth it. And if the timming is off, your CCT is no good anyhow... images/icons/frown.gif

Maybe Thursday. what do you say? If you want I can get the trailer and just plan to tear into it. It is up to you.

Thats Awesome! images/icons/smile.gif Congrats...i'm glad theyre both fine and in good health.

About the tools, I think I have a good amount, but is there anything particular that we'll need?

When I changed the plugs I didnt check for a spark...how can I do that (just place the wire above the plug and look for a spark as I start it)?

Yea, when it starts I am usually giving it full throttle. But when it starts it sounds like its muffled.

Do I got to order the APE or can I purchase it from a shop...how long will it take untill I get it if I order it?

Well if I got the tools then I guess we can save the hassel of taking it to your place...I would hate for you to go out of your way to get a trailer and tow it and all.

Yea, Thursday works for me! Around 5pm?

Thanks for all your efforts to help me out, I REALLY APPRECIATE IT!!! graemlins/thumbup.gif

For the APE Manual cam chain tensioner, call
1(818)842-4952.
I just ordered mine today, and the guy said it only takes a day to ship anywhere in Cali. He can send it with a credit card over the phone, but that requires that he ships it to the same address thats on the credit card, or he will send it COD money order.
Total price, shipping included is $56.57, unless you order the gasket, that's $2.50 (i think) more.

Speaking of that, GSXR-Freak, would you be able to do my valve adjustment and install the MCCT this weekend on Saturday?

I figured that was your riding day. Hmmm, Sunday, I have a paintball game, but I can ditch that if there is no other way. I assume you work during the week, right?
Also, how long would it take, maybe we could get it done early in the morning and I could still make my paintball game?

I would get the CCT if you can. It is going to cost you about 55 bucks with a gasket. They are in Burbank so if you are willing to drive over you can get it and save on shipping.

Thursday is cool... if you want to save some time, if you can take off the gas tank and right side bodywork before I get there (like over the next few days) then we can dig right into the cam timming...

well if you really want to get as much done as you can.. images/icons/smile.gif Take off the air box too... If you have the longer screwdriver, you can loosen the TBs and then remove the bolts in the valve cover. Then we can come in and check timming in just a few min... images/icons/smile.gif

GSXR-Freak

fraggle,
I really think it is the cam timming. When I first did my valve adjustment, I had the chain slip a tooth before I had teh CCT tight, it did the same thing... images/icons/frown.gif I was so lost untill I checked the timing... and sure enough.. lol

GSXR-Freak,

Hey Bud, well I got the mm sockets so we're ok there images/icons/smile.gif . Also, I should take the tank off completely right (like seperated from the bracket)? I'm gonna do as much as I can, i'll probably do up to the TB's or valve covers images/icons/wink.gif . Well right now i'm off to get the APE MCCT in Burbank...Man I hope that's the problem!!!

John<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">SWEET...I'll go pick it up from Burbank. Yea, I was thinking about getting as much done as I can...so we can save some time. Is the MCCT hard to maintain? I'll email you the directions again.

Nick<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Yes remove the tank from the bike. It should have two 12mm bolts that hold it to the sub frame. A gas line, a return line (Make sure you plug this line when you remove it or the tank will leak), and I think two other tubes...

Just do as much as you feel you can. The rest we can do when I get there... It shouldnt take to long. I can normaly change out the CCTs and CHECK timming on the bike in about 1.5 hours. Do you have a ft lbs ratchet? If not I can bring it..

John

Umm...I dont have a ft lbs ratchet...sorry. Yea, I will do as much as I can, so we dont have to waste time on things that I can do myself. I will also email you today the directions...!

See Ya graemlins/thumbup.gif ,

For all of you guys who were wondering the outcome of my bike...The problem was the CCT as Gixxer-Freak said all along. Damn he knows it all!!! BUT now my cam chain needs to be replaced images/icons/frown.gif .

GSXR-Freak
04-20-2002, 11:12 AM
Yea he got really lucky... I am not sure how the bike even started it was so far off.. All the valves look to be closing all the way... And that is a good thing.. images/icons/smile.gif But the chain was off by like 4 teeth.... images/icons/frown.gif

In turn the cam chain got jacked. this is the SAME sound that mine made. But for me, I didnt find out till after I reabuilt the motor. It really sounds like a crank or rod bearing that has gone out... images/icons/frown.gif

We should have the chain early in the week.. images/icons/smile.gif
