: Storing inside for winter

Hey guys I'm gonna store my bike in my living room this winter. Other than lubing the chain, putting battery on tender, and adding fuel stabilizer to gas tank, is there anything else I need to do for it to be ready to ride as soon as the weather is more favorable?

Also does it matter if I have a full tank with the stabilizer in it or will the gas be bad by next season.

Can the battery stay on the bike while I leave it on the tender?

Thanks !

everybody is going to tell you something different but I usually leave about 1/4 tank of fuel with the stabilizer in it, drain it before using it next season. since its inside I wouldnt worry about covering/pulling the tires off to avoid weather. You can leave the battery in the bike while on a tender but I'd remove it just in case for whatever reason it decided to leak acid. Ive even gone as far as drain out some oil too but its not necessary.

look into chain wax too. it works as a lube when the chain warms up, but when cool it almost hardens or at least "thickens" to better protect the chain.

Change the oil and filter, and lube the chain, and your done.
Your gas wont go bad in a couple of months, so no need for the stabiliser, and you are storing the bike inside, so you don't need to fill the tank.

Generally you should top off the tank as full as possible because as the temperatures change, condensation will form in the gas tank which will rust it out.

Just a guess, but his living room has a stable temperature :P

I tried to do this last year with my ninja 250. Let's just say it didn't work well on a bike with carbs. I had it in my room and the gas smell was quite strong even though I drained the carbs. I wanted to it with my k5 gsxr 600 but my gas cap gasket is bad. Has anyone tried putting theirs in a bedroom? I was wondering if a bedroom was just too enclosed and won't get a enough fresh air or should the bike not smell at all? The reason I am so curious is because I would love to do it and stay warm while working on the bike. Currently my bike is sitting in my sister's garage but it's freezing cold and is a pain to work on. I tried convincing my roommates to put it where our tv sits. That way we could sit and stare at it but for some reason they were not convinced.:dunno
Sorry for the novel but if anyone has some ideas to decrease the gas smell that would be awesome.:)

Hahaha I figured that much out..:lolI I guess my question is assuming all the gaskets, fuel lines are good how much smell would be produced? Obviously outside most fumes will dissipate. I was just wondering if stuck in a bedroom which obviously get less air movement than a kitchen if the smell would be too noticeable? Hope that cleared things up. :biggrin

At my old place I had my 04 parked inside. I would get an occasional whiff walking by but it wasn't like the apartment was filled with fumes. It wasn't too bad.

Hmm maybe after I replace the gasket and the fuel lines I might get brave and try it. Would the charcoal canister on the CA model make any difference? Umm do I really need the charcoal canister in the long run? :dunno I had it on my ninja 250 since it was also a CA model but never touched it. Thanks for the info.
