Just recently bought a 97 GSXR600 and I notice that when I am at a stop light and I shift into first gear it shifts very hard and I can feel the bike jerk a little. I took it to the shop and they told me that maybe it is idling to a little high or I might need to adjust the clutch. Any thoughts?

Sounds like a good start... How much free play is in the clutch lever? What is your idle at?

Constant mesh transmissions tend to feel like that, unless of course it's excessive. Kawasaki's in particular exhibit this kind of behaviour. Look into it though, good luck.

They say idle should be at about 1200...
What about the clutch lever?

Ditto, adjust your clutch cable @ both ends. images/icons/wink.gif
And replace the engine oil if u dont know when the last time it's been replaced. Recommended : 10-40W.
